Expected behaviour of 'turn off display' setting on R13 Chromebook

I recently purchased the Acer R13 Cromebook. I have set the "Settings -->Device --> Power --> When idle" to ''Turn off display'. It does that after a certain amount of time (as I expected) and the power indicator remains blue (again, as I expected). My question is, how do I turn the display back on? I have observed the following behaviour when doing what I thought should be done:

In laptop mode (i.e. with screen open) I expected to be able to touch the keyboard pad or depress any key. When I did this, there was some indication that something happened in that the black screen 'lightened' a little, but it wouldn't come on.

In tablet mode,  I tried a couple of things. Firstly I touched the screen - this did nothing. Then I read https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/platform2/+/master/power_manager/docs/power_buttons.md (although I'm not sure if it applies!) where it says that a single tap of the power button would turn the screen back on. This action exhibited the same behaviour as in laptop mode (i.e. the screen 'lightened' a little).

My workaround is to close up the chromebook screen, wait until the power indicator starts flashing orange (i.e. in sleep mode), then open the screen  to get the prompt to enter pin or password.

I would welcome any thoughts/comments/guidance relating to this. My basic question is how to turn the screen back on if you have this 'Turn off display' setting?

Thanks

This is unusual. I also have the R13. The screen should turn on as soon as you press a key or touch the touchpad.

Thanks pkw. Just to clarify, are you saying that on your device the screen turns on when you press the keyboard with this setting or do you see that same behaviour that I have set out?

    Thank you

It turns on when pressing the keyboard, just like what you'd get with any pc where the screen is set to sleep after a period.

Have you tried powerwash to see it it would fix the problem?

Also - is it possible that you have the screen brightness set to very low, almost off?

    Thanks pkw for your advice.

I've just completed a powerwash but this hasn't resolved it. The brightness level is set at just over 50% so that shouldn't be the cause. Is there anything else you can think of or should I contact ACER support?

Just to update this.  Acer Support said they would need to have the device for "repair".  As it was a new purchase from CurrysPC World it has been returned and a refund obtained. Thanks pkw for you assistance.
