Hi Friends,

I have facing charging port issue on my Acer swift 3 SF315-52G laptop. After the quarantine period i had checked in with acer service center for this issue. They said that because of charging port issue i need be change overall motherboard.

Is it really necessary to change new motherboard for charging port issue?

PS: I bought this laptop June 2019 only.

  • I'm not sure. Have you ever tested the power adapter and the dc-in jack cable with a multimeter?

Yes, your system has the power input soldered to the MB, so if there's a physical problem with it the MB needs to be replaced.

egydiocoelho..! I did check my adapter with multimeter. Its working fine and i did check with my friends laptop too. There is no problem with adapter. The problem is in charging port. My doubt is it the charging port along with the motherboard or we can change charging port without changing motherboard?

I've taken a look at pictures of the mainboard for computer and I believe what I am seeing is the charge port left middle on the image from the link below.

In my experience these are normally soldiered directly to the mainboard and from the looks on the opposite side.  The entire mainboard will need to be removed from the chassis.  This is typically something that should be done by a technician however if you are savvy enough with this sort of thing and you don't mind the risk of potentially damaging your equipment if you make mistakes you can disassemble your laptop and check the soldier joints to the mainboard.  If they look secure already (no cracks in the soldier) then you will likely need to remove it and soldier an new one to the board.  I did not really look at Google to see what the availability of something like that is for your laptop but if you can find one it should be fairly straight forward to remove and replace it without needing an entirely new mainboard.

    Good luck!! :)
