Headphones don't work on my laptop

So i have an acer laptop model Aspire ES 15 ES1-532G-C2LB and i bought new headphones today and they don't seem to work. Headphone jack is 3.5mm. Can anyone help?

Make sure your headphone is plugged in properly.
Make sure the volume is audible.
Make sure it's not a headphone problem.
Update your audio driver.
Set headphones as default in sound and playback

The jack is made for a 3.5mm 4ring stereo headset plug with mic, not a 3ring 3.5mm stereo headphone plug. Sometimes headphones work by manipulating the plug but often they don't. Jack E/NJ
