How can I extend my (A717-72G-700J) display onto 2 additional monitors?

When connecting two identical monitors to my Acer Aspire 7 (A717-72G-700J) they only mirror each other.  Both of them assume number 2 when I open display settings, and my native display is number 1.  I have updated drivers, my computer, I have updated my graphics card (NVIDIA GTX 1060).  My computer cannot distinguish one of the new monitors from the other.  I have one HDMI port, so I have an HDMI splitter running to my monitors.  Monitors are brand new Acer monitors (Acer CB272 bmiprx).  Does anyone have a remedy for this issue?

    I've had some success putting a docking station on the USB 3.0 or USB-C port that has video outputs. It's not as fast as the builtin display, so maybe not good for some games, but it does give you multiple monitors.

    @billsey,
    That makes sense.  I have one HDMI port, USB 3.0, USBC, and a few USB 2.0 ports.
