I am a big fan of Acer for 10 years now, however, I am a bit dissatisfied with my recent computer- Acer R15. Over a month now I realise the screen has been opening from the left hinge. Nonetheless, most times I just clip it back together. However, for the past two weeks, I realise it is popping back out. Sunday as I tried to close the lid I heard it make a cracking sound, so I gently lift it up to see what the issue was and to my surprise, the screen started to lift from the edges around it. From then I have to leave it open and keep it in one position as a fragment fell from the inside. The touch screen works, however, the entire lid is coming apart. I am an educator and I have to be using my PC to facilitate online classes amidst this COVID-19 crisis so please understand my frustration. Is there any way possible way I could get thIS fix?

The hinge screws probably either loosened or the bottom case hinge mounting points broke (have a look at the caption below). Have it checked under warranty if the R15 is in warranty or open it up and have a look. If the screws mounting points (which is common) are broken, you will have to buy a new bottom case for your R15, as fixing these mounting points is useless as they always break. This is a very weak point(s) in all Acer laptops and it happens across the board, especially to older laptops where the plastic gets brittle and old and the sheer hinge force cracks or breaks these mounting points.

Thank you for your feedback. It is really the lid that is the problem

This is the closest the sides of the lid can go... I had another Acer for 7 years and I have never had this problem and this PC is only 2 years old

You will have to open the laptop and inspect the hinges and the mounting points, as that is what is making the lid not close properly and lose. You might have to either buy new hinges or bottom case, which are cheap but, the bottom case is a big job to change, as I’ve said before.

I will have this changed by a technician. Where can I get the case to buy?

Wouldn't I need a lid cover as well?

If the lid cover is damaged then you would need a new one also, inspect all the components like; bottom case, screen cover front bezel and the top lid and if they are damaged then get these components, they are available separately and they are not expensive, the only think is, if they are in stock and/or available because of this virus.

Thank you so much for your assistance. One more question though, may I get a link for a charger for this computer as I realise it now shorting out. I have to fix it a specific way for it to charge.
