i brought the laptop from curry’s and I’ve noticed its not a Acer charger its a LITEON ( but it has worked for Ages with no problem )

With the machine completely turned off, does the battery charge LED light up steady orange or steady blue? Jack E/NJ

Have you removed any of the bottom doors or base cover recently to change RAM or HDD or for any other purpose? If not, make sure all the 17 base cover screws and each door screw are pretty snug. Then try it again, Jack E/NJ

I did take the back completely off to fit the new battery, but I fitted all the screws back in properly.

I don't want to buy a new charger if its something else, I now think the old battery was ok !!

Some mainboards have a spring-loaded normally-off safety interlock switch that cuts all power to the mainboard when the base cover is removed. If the cover  is misaligned with and/or not pressing hard enough against this switch to keep it on, the laptop will neither turn on nor charge. Another possibility is a spring-loaded normally-on battery reset switch accessed thru a pinhole in the base cover that is stuck in the off position.

If you have a reset pinhole, I would first try to remove the charger and repeatedly press and release a paper clip into the pinhole to see if the switch is stuck in the off or its contacts are dirty. You should feel some springiness to the paperclip if the switch is working properly.

If that doesn't work, then I'm afraid you have to remove the base cover again and look for the safety interlock switch. On most mainboards, it's usually located around the RAM slots. Then too make sure the base cover presses hard enough against the switch, you can tape a spacer on the switch button itself or the inside of the base cover.
