chromebook: wireless print setup (what am I doing wrong?)

settings: advanced: printing: printers         -in this section; for Google Chromebook; I run into this weird problem. I set the wireless printer for direct WIFI connection. On my laptop I set my wifi connection to the direct wifi signal the printer sends; log in with the provided-for-password.   In the printer setup on my laptop; I see the brand name selection.  I click on it.  In looking over to the printer; it displays a confirmation message. I tap that on the printer; but when I look back at my laptop; there's an error message.  "could not complete registration; please check your printer and try again"   After enough failed attempts. I start wondering if the registration that's not happening is because I'm not connected to the internet. The laptop doesn't have two wifi connections like it has two USB ports.  I imagine if it did; whatever final communication signaling between my laptop; the printer and the internet could be complete and I'd be all set.

    I'm not entirely sure I understand what you're doing but I think on most printers you can use WPS to connect without issues. If all else fails, you can try Google Cloud Print.

    google cloud print doesn't work.  so the "when all else fails" isn't an option either,  I connect to WIFI on my laptop through a hotspots in the apartment building I live in.  Thus making it a need to direct connect through the wifi or router signal that's preinstalled in the wireless printer.                thanks for the response

    Sorry to hear that. I was able to use cloud print with an ancient laser printer hooked up to a desktop pc and print from my Chromebook, so I thought it was pretty good. But it might not work in your case.

    Yeah, Chromebooks really want to use the Google cloud print. Unless the printer manufacturer has done a direct to printer app you have to connect the printer to your internet, and have it login to the cloud print servers, then you send you print jobs up to Google and it connects and prints to your printer

    .  Thanks for the response. As I said in my last message I use wifi hotspots. I don't pay for a personal wifi signal. In contacting the printer manufacturer; they said the printer won't work logged in to a hotspot.

    Then you may be out of luck, unless the manufacturer has a Chrome app for printing directly. :(
