Hello i want to put m.2 ssd in my laptop and i am wondering does the size of m.2 matter? The size of  Adata XPG SX8200 Pro, M.2-2280 is 22 x 80 x 3.5.Is this size compatible with my Acer Aspire 7 A717-72G-70VU?
Thanks.

Yes, but before you buy, make sure your m.2 socket has only one key since the SX8200 has only one slot. If the socket has two keys, the SX8200 won't fit. Jack E/NJ

How to check if I have only 1 key and I checked previous discussions and i saw that i must have Link Width 2x or higher to install m.2 and mine is 1x how do i fix this? maybe updating the bios or ?

You must open the back cover to check the socket keys. You must do this anyway to install the m.2 card. However, if the max PCIe link width is only 1x according to HWInfo64, then you're better off getting a plain m.2 2280 SATA3 card which has two key slots and will fit your machine even if its socket has only one key.You will get no advantage with the XPG NVME card. A plain Adata m.2 2280 SATA3 card will work just fine. Search adata su800 m.2 1TB  Jack E/NJ

The WD is an NVME card with a single key. It might not fit. The Adata SU800 should fit. Jack E/NJ

Yes, the 512GB Gigabyte should also fit if it has two key slots. But won't be any faster than the 1TB Adata SU800. Jack E/NJ

It should boot faster. It should also load programs into RAM faster.

But after booting & loading RAM,  you won't feel much different because most activity is then between RAM & CPU only,  not with SSD.
