The current driver I'm using is not working. I have no cam at all. I've tried every solution I can think of.

So, is there a way to access an older driver I could try? The webcam driver for this laptop is NOT listed on this site for download.

If you bring up properties on the webcam from Device Manager and go to the drivers tab, is there a Roll Back Driver option, or is it grayed out?

Sadly, it's greyed out. I'm 99 percent sure that the camera hardware is not actually broke and that it's a driver issue. It's just been frustrating to not be able to try an older driver and see if that works.

That is what it sounds like. The camera drivers haven't changed for a long time, and if they had been updated the roll back wouldn't be gray. Yet if the camera entry in Device Manager is still there then the camera hasn't disappeared entirely, like if the cable were disconnected or broken. Does Device Manager show any errors? Is there any chance the camera is just disabled in your security settings?

Device manager - Device status: 'Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)
To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer.'

Under events - 'Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)

To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer.'

The webcam is always hidden in device manager. I have to click on 'show hidden devices' to see it.

OK, so that does sound like the cable between the camera and the motherboard has either come unplugged or has broken. Are you still in warranty?

The laptop is under an extended warranty.

Before I get it fixed, though, I'm going to try to install an old driver for the webcam. But because it was a driver for Win 7, I'm having trouble getting Win 10 to recognise it.

Yeah, trying to install and old driver likely need to be run in compatibility mode, but if the hardware is not being recognized the driver won't help...

I tried for hours to install the old drivers and it did not work. I'm going to give up now and try and buy an external one, but they are not in stock in most places. Before I give up do you have any other ideas to try?

Not really, short of replacing the camera module. I just bought two cheap webcams off eBay and they arrived in about a week, but for some reason there has been a real run in them lately. :)

Thanks for your help here. Mine happened to brake just when I needed it. Will have to buy new one.
