  • I have an i7-8750h processor in my brand new Acer Nitro AN15-53 laptop. after getting all of the drivers updated and the laptop running well I kept getting pop up messages from Intel Rapid Storage Technology telling me "one or more of your drives can be optimized" (I didn't get a screen shot of this pop up and it won't duplicate) after selecting it and restarting my D: drive disappeared from explorer. After extensive trouble shooting I have gotten to opening the intel software where I can see the drive but can access no functions like "reset drive" or anything else from your forums or website or google. This system was setup with a C: drive 110GB and D: drive 932GB where all of my programs were loaded and now lost

@Diavel959Step 1. Press Windows key and R key simultaneously to launch the Run dialog box. Type diskmgmt.msc into the box and pressEnter to open Windows Disk Management.

Step 2. In the Disk Management, you can see that your new hard drive is marked as unknown, not initialized, unallocated. Right click the Disk, and make new volume to get back disk

    Initialize Disk

Note- image is of my older os so, these initialize disk, offline option may not available
    Right click make new volume

    Click yes if problem solved

So this has got me close thanks very much. The problem I see now is that the drive was designated as recovery disk and I don't have the options to set it to primary. That being said now that we can see how the drives are configured in the screen shot how should they be? C: as recovery or boot? TB drive as primary or something else?

I just realized the capacity in the disk management screen doesn't recognize the drive I lost, the pic below illustrates the intel software seeing my 932GB hard drive as seen below. so it doesn't even come up from the command prompt. This is bad as i can't even get support from intel and i believe their software is the root of the problem.

Step 1  Right-click on Start menu and select Settings to open Setting window Then select Update & Security option.

Step 2  Click Troubleshoot on the left pane and find the option "Hardware and Devices" on the right side. Click "Run the troubleshooter" button.

    hard drive not showing up

Step 3  A window pops up to analyze hardware issue. Then you can follow the wizard to finish the process

    Click yes if problem solved

@Diavel959 A)1Open Device Manager by right clicking This PC -> Manage -> Device Manager.

    2. Expand one of the categories to find the find disk drive then expand , then right-click it, and select Update Driver

    3. Select Search automatically for updated driver software.

B.)Free download AOMEI Partition Assistant. Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP is supported.

Step 1. Install and launch AOMEI Partition Assistant. It will display you all disks on your hard drive. Here you can see the hard disk disappeared in My Computer list in the main interface, shown as “ * ”, status shows “Hidden”. Right-click it and select Advanced -> Unhide Partition in the pop-up window.

    Advanced Unhide Partition

Step 2. It will pop-up a window to ask you if you are sure to unhide the partition. Click OK.

    Unhinding Selected Partition

Step 3. Finally, click Apply at the toolbar to submit the whole operation.

    Apply Unhide Partition

Wait a minute, it will unhide the partition, and you can see and access the hard drive in My Computer again.

    Click yes if problem solved

    Tried
    A) It does not see any other drive than my c: drive, update drive says its up to date.
    B) software is great but as seen in screenshot it does not see a second disk as the intel software that created this issue does. It should be seeing the 932GB drive so i'm wondering if it is possible that it dislodged from it hardware slot?? It has never been subjected to any impact of any kind.

Intel RST is famous with putting disks in array without asking. Just disable RST in BIOS and you will be able to see your second disk just follow the instructions below:
    1. Click the Start Button and type cmd
    2. Right-click the result and select Run as administrator
    3. Type this command and press ENTER: bcdedit /set {current} safeboot minimal (ALT: bcdedit /set safeboot minimal)
    4. Restart the computer and enter BIOS Setup
    5. Change the SATA Operation mode to AHCI from either IDE or RAID (Go to BIOS screen, move to Main tab, press Ctrl+S buttons together, press F10 to save and exit, AHCI option should be available in Main tab.)
    6. Save changes and exit Setup and Windows will automatically boot to Safe Mode.
    7. Right-click the Windows Start Menu once more. Choose Command Prompt (Admin).
    8. Type this command and press ENTER: bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot (ALT: bcdedit /deletevalue safeboot)
    9. Reboot once more and Windows will automatically start with AHCI drivers enabled                                                                                                                                                         Please click Yes if I have answered your question.

Easily restarted in AHCI, the mode it was in was "RST with Optane"
save and exit reboot then restart in normal mode and no change to explorer. Looked through device manager again and nothing in disk drives.

Good, now all you have to do is to delete the raid volume and since you have raid 1 you will not loose any information. Please do check intel rst manual/forums thou.

Unfortunately I posted on intel the same time I started this thread and have received no response. I would just like to send it back as its a whopping 5 days old and no one should have to go through this with a brand new pc. Thanks for trying guys.

Not sure if this is covered by the warranty but you could try. Good luck.

Have you tried check/explore the whole HHD/Partition with Linux LiveCD?
example : Ubuntu Live CD or PartedMagic
