Hi, I'm a newbie old guy. I have a Aspire Model Name: E1-771 - Part Number: NX.MG7AA.006 laptop, do you know about bios updates? There are 3 updates all newer, I have V1.17 (12/17/13)  I read I should update my bios before a win10 install. That the hardware needs to be most ready prior to the download.  Acer is no help my pc is 5 years old but it's brand new. I bought it as a backup for emergencies but never needed it. My main personal PC is the Travelmate P273-MG-6448 it's a super computer by my standards. So if I should screw up the Aspire I still have my beloved Travelmate to find answers  Can't get my New 8Plus Iphone to talk with win7, nothing works with Win 7 that's new, it seems. But I need a Win10 machine & know nothing about bios upgrades, if you can't help; can you point me?
Sure wish I could buy a Travelmate with Win10 pro installed. They don't offer this line any longer. Current product lines comparable to my old travelmate are very expensive.
Thanks here's an article from March 20, 2020 that I referenced for the win10 prep.  https://www.zdnet.com/article/heres-how-you-can-still-get-a-free-windows-10-upgrade/

If your E1-771 was originally factory installed Win7, you should stay with the original BIOS version 1.x firmware. Jack E/NJ

@JackEWhy do you think they made 3 more bios updates and I'm assuming it's UEFI & not a legacy Bios files, would I be correct to your knowledge?

The 1.x versions are usually legacy bios chip only. The 2.x versions are usually the UEFI bootstrap chip with legacy bios overlay. Win7 must use legacy BIOS mode on an MBR partitioned HDD.  I strongly recommend not trying to update your BIOS due to the significant risk of bricking your machine. Win10 will install in in either legacy BIOS & UEFI bootstrap. If it were mine, I'd just try to install Win10 on it as-is. Jack E/NJ
