I bought this laptop in December 2019. It has been freezing for no reason for the last 2 days. I have revise the battery settings as advised in some forum and also uninstalled Microsoft updates. Still no joy. I have decided to reset the machine. Now I am not even able to set up the machine. It freezes in the page that asks to sign in with Microsoft. For the 3rd time!

Can someone help as this machine is needed for distance learning for primary school? Many thanks in advance.

Try starting it with the network fully disconnected, you might find it easiest to just power your router off to do the test. It should allow a local login using cached credentials. If the problem is an issue with the network that should get you running and we can start to diagnose further. There is a recovery feature separate from the Windows reset that would get you back to factory, but let's try the easy one first.

Thank you @billsey. I disconnected the router and was able to finish setup. I then downloaded all drivers in the Acer support page. The BIOS the machine has is the latest so all the 2 downloaded files were not applied. All others were run. The machine froze again around 3 to 4 times. Windows suggested a repair. The result was a blue screen saying ‘Startup Repair couldn’t repair your PC’. So I am still struggling to get this machine to work without freezing.
Any other thoughts? Thank you in advance.

OK, sounds like you either have a corrupted system image that is being reapplied during the reset or there might be some hardware issues with the drive. Boot to the startup repair and when it fails go into the advanced options and open a command prompt. In there type "dir C:\" and make sure the volume mounted as C: is the one with Windows then type "chkdsk C: /f /r" and let it run. It might take as long as a few hours to complete. Once it's done try rebooting again to see if the issue is fixed.

    Thank you @billsey
The laptop worked well for around 3 hours. He worked on Paint 3D. He then left the laptop on standy or sleep witb 30% battery. I picked up the laptop to install MS Office and the laptop was frozen. Stopped on the power button and the laptoo re-started. And froze after thw Acer logo. I then re-start again in the power button. It start re-starting and installing updates. It froze again with 90% complete.
Do you have any other ideas? We are in lock down now and i can't take the laptop anywhere.
    Thank you.

OK, did you get into the command prompt to try my suggestion?

I am sorry. All the above was after running your suggestion in command prompt as an administrator.

OK, after trying the chkdsk if that didn't help then the most common problem is unlikely. Let's go on and look for other options. At he same command prompt try "SFC /ScanNow" and wait for it to complete, then try the reboot again. If it's still broken head to the command prompt and try the DISM commands:
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Once both of those are done try again to reboot and report back.

For the 1st, the result is:
    No component store corruption detected

    For the 2nd:
Deployment image servicing and management tool
    Version 10.0.18362.1

    Image version: 10.0.18362.720
    100%
    Restores successful
    Operation completed successfully

I will re-start and report back.

Thanks @billsey. The machine just froze after re-starting.
I have called Acer and asked them to collect the laptop as it is still in warranty. They have collected and I am waiting to hear from them now.

    Thank you for your help.
