I own a acer nitro 5 an515 42, and I discovered its under performing due to the cpu underclocking itself to 1.68ghz even while plugged into battery, I haven't modified the laptop in anyway other then updating the drivers to the latest versions from the device manager panel, if this is a common issue and anyone knows how to fix it id love the help if any additional information is needed please ask away

1st update graphic driver you have rx560x ,just open my link then click on download

    https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/radeon-500-series/radeon-rx-500x-series/radeon-rx-560x ( expand window 10 64bit and download latest 20.1.3)

When download complete then install it ,it will update your gpu driver hence also increase performance.

2)do this step when completed 1st step follow these steps-

-set high performance in nitrosense both AC AND BATTERY THEN CLOSE
-After setting up from nitrosense right click on battery option in taskbar and go to power option
-then go to change plan setting (right side of the high performance plan)
-Then go to change advance power settings
-Then find and expand Switchable Dynamic Graphics then expand Global Settings and set maximize performance in both PLUGGED IN AND ON BATTERY
-then find amd graphics power settings then expand Amd powerplay settings and set maximize performance in both PLUGGED IN AND ON BATTERY
-set maximum performance if you have this option available

Ive done all of this, all my settings are set to high performance, and the gpu is not giving me problems, my cpu is, its not running like it says on the box, it runs only at 1.60ghz to 1.68ghz even under load it wont pass 1.68hz underload meaning cinebench r20, games, etc.

You need to update your bios there is latest version 1.16

    After v1.11 there is 1.12→1.13→1.16
    You can directly update v1.16
    Just download v1.16 and install

    While updating
1)make sure the battery is full, the power is plugged in
2)close all programs and open bios application and run
When you are doing bios update in progress do not press any key and do not remove or insert mouse or keyboard etc

Gaming laptop are designed play to or do high performance task like gaming when plugin .it does not damage your battery.

it's not a bug, it is a feature, as confirmed by Acer support.
It is hard locked from the manufacturer for increased battery life, and nothing will change it. It is a common issue on all Acer laptops with AMD CPUs.
As far as performance it concerned, the reduced frequency does not really matter for daily usage. Of course, it affects heavy usage scenarios like gaming.without charging all gaming laptops give 50% performance.

    Also update your bios .
