As the question says I cannot get the BIOS or Windows 10 to recognize the drive.  My laptop is the Acer Aspire A315-42-R9ZV with Ryzen 5 CPU and 1TB HDD.  I recently purchased this laptop for university work. Mainly programming using Android studio, however the disk becomes 100% active and the laptop is unbearably slow.  I assumed a SSD might solve this issue.  I have updated the BIOS to 1.05 and it still wont recognise.  I have tried reseating the stick numerous times to no avail. The stick is WD GREEN SATA SSD M.2 2280.  The BIOS doesn't have many settings, I cannot change it to Legacy and there is not other option other than AHCI.  Is there anything at all to get this SSD to be recognised that I have not considered?

    1) possibility that the ssd is damaged and faulty. have you tried the ssd in another laptop or using external usb adaptor ?

    2) try it in ahci mode.

Thanks for your reply.  Unfortunately I don't have a new enough laptop or usb external adapter to test but I will purchase one.

I am curious as to this model of laptop I purchased actually supports SSD SATA as in the password options in the BIOS it claims that HDD NVMe doesn't support HDD Password, why would it say that?.  Could it be the case that I need a NVMe SSD instead?  That would be strange because from what I can find out online similar laptops to this one like the A315-41 supports SATA and not NVMe.

I am actually struggling to find any data on this model of laptop.  I cannot find any that matches this one anywhere. The Ryzen 5 chip is 3500u where most others are 2500u (I think from memory).

My serial Number for this laptop is : NXHF9EK00292503BFE3400 if this can help in anyway.

Bring back the days where the manuals actually supplied useful information.

I have just ran into this exact problem.

Can you advise how you resolved it?

Forgot all about this post, oops. Yes I did manage to find a solution. This A315-42 does actually take the NVMe.  After a lot more research I discovered some people had the

    New SK Hynix 256GB M.2 Solid State Drive HFM256GDJTNG-8310A L15194-001 2019.

So I went for this one and it worked without any issues. Its only 256GB though I didn't want to risk trying something better at more cost.  The laptop runs better but its still not great. Android Studio, a browser game , maybe outlook and discord and you to see it struggle a bit.  B Maybe more RAM could be an improvement .  But the SSD is worth it.
