Hi All, I am having fun with my son's laptop.

Last night it wasn't booting at all - it took a couple of goes but would go into the automatic repair.

A few cycles round that and it claims to have not change much, but it now (slowly) comes to the Windows login screen. The PIN works, but it is slow - I can copy a couple of files and then everything seems to stop, and it just sites there for ages if I tell it to shutdown.

I did create a USB media drive, but I can't see how to get it to boot from that - any ideas?

I have reseated the memory, the HDD and the SSD.

With the USB inserted, Restart the laptop and tap f2 repeatedly on start up to take you to the BIOS menu then change boot priority to USB drive, save changes and exit

Thanks for that - managed to reinstall windows (keeping data) but it's still not right. Slow to boot/shutdown, slow to unusable when up if I get a desktop, but most of the time hitting a black screen :-(

    Any thoughts?

OK, Looks sorted - the HDD was shot - unable to copy anything off it to clone it, so replaced the HDD and all well.

    Thanks.
