I have an acer swift 3 which i bought a year from now, it has been slow since i bought it and it continuously decreases the response time (to which i thought was a bad idea of getting this laptop because it wasnt worth what i paid for). Now i cant even open my chrome browser or even do basic spreadsheet tasks

i read that win10 consumes most of the ram spaces which gave me 2 options.

1. Downgrade my os to win7 for optimized usage or
2. increase my Ram

my question is which is the best option for my machine

Here’s my laptop details :
Acer Swift 3 - SWIFT SF314-54
intel core i3 - 7020U CPU@ 2.30GHz
4GB RAM
64bit OS

OS:
WINDOWS 10 Home Single Language
v.1903
OS BUILD 18362.592

  • Hi,
Could you please tell us whether you have any third party AV program installed, like McAfee or Norton.

    Hi brummyfan2
i have norton security for antivirus which was preinstalled when i bought it
  • Hi @Swift3SoSlow
I  think it's causing the problem, download Norton Removal tool from their site and uninstall it completely, if you don't uninstall it completely the reminiscent files will cause further slowdown, so please download it from the link below and uninstall it, you will be immediately protected by Windows Defender, if you want another third party AV program, you can always install one latter on.

Thank you! I removed it completely and i noticed that my battery icon just dropped. Like it was almost full then after restart its around 30%
  • No problem, I don't think uninstalling Norton will cause battery problem, anyway, you could try a battery reset, switch off the laptop, disconnect from mains, follow the instructions in the video, leave the laptop to rest for a while(15-20 Mins), then reconnect AC adapter and fully charge the battery before start using.

Hi, Sorry to hear about your issue. Since the unit is running slow, try to a Factory Reset and try. This will help you to reload the entire OS. Check the steps below.

     Factory Reset:
    1. Navigate to Settings.  You can get there by clicking the gear icon on the Start menu.
    2. Select "Update & security"
    3. Click Recovery in the left pane.
    4. Reset this PC.
    5. Click "Get started" under Reset this PC.
    6. Click either "Keep my files" or "Remove everything," depending on whether you want to keep your data files intact.
    7. Select "Just remove my files" or "Remove files and clean the drive" if you chose "Remove everything" in the prior step. Cleaning the drive takes a lot longer but will make sure that, if you are giving the computer away, the next person can't recover your erased files. If you are keeping the computer, choose "Just remove my files."
    8. Click Next if Windows warns you that you won't be able to roll back to a prior version of the OS.
    9. Click Reset when prompted.

Try this and check. Also check the link below and check and for the RAM and SSD/HDD upgrades for your unit. They are Crucial and they guarantee compatibility with your exact model. Write down the part number for your reference and then order it from Amazon, it's cheaper and also has fast delivery. It is the most tested to be working.
