Hi guys. Ive been experiencing some issues with my battery/adapter for the last 2 days. I had used my laptop's always on port to charge my phone overnight like ive been doing for the last year or so but yesterday when i plugged in the adapter in the morning and turned the laptop on, it would charge to 93% then the adapter would cut out and back in constantly with the audio beeps that go with that. It even does it when the laptop is off. The amber charging light cuts off for a bit then comes back on. Ive removed the ram trap cover to disconnect the battery and my laptop works fine that way but i cant use the battery obviously. Not sure what's causing it. Ive tried all the methods ive seen here namely 1. making sure the squat switch under the ram cover is depressed 2. unplugging the laptop and shutting it down then pressing the battery reset button for 5 seconds and leaving it off power for 5 minutes. 3. Uninstalling the microsoft acpi complaint battery driver thing and restarting. 4. Physically disconnected the internal battery and pressed the power button for 40 seconds to discharge static. Maybe i need to re-calibrate the battery but every guide ive seen wants me to charge it to 100% first which is not possible obviously. Any help would be appreciated. The laptop is working fine and its usable but would like to have the battery back in case of power cuts and such. Thanks!

  • Does the battery charge up to 100% when the notebook is turned off?

No. Like i said it does the same when the laptop is off. The amber charging light turns off then back on over and over.
  • I would try to update the bios to see if it solves the problem.

Agree with my colleague @egydiocoelho and if the BIOS update doesn't fix it try to borrow another charging adapter and see if it works, sometimes a local repair shop will let you test it. If it still has the same problem using a known good Adapter then it is the battery that needs replacing

TheRealestPepito also check your battery wear either with the battery report/hwinfo/batterybar pro you might probably have a faulty battery or even a faulty adapter in this case check the adapter with a voltmeter to make sure its outputting the correct voltage and you can also try a battery powerdrain firstly uninstall the acpi driver and after press/hold for 30s and let it rest for 2/3h to make sure all power its completely drained from all capacitors then boot into bios and reset to defaults after the acpi driver reinstalled see if the issue persists

Sorry, been away for a few days. BIOS is up to date. I tried HWinfo and it says battery had 16.2% wear. I can use my laptop on AC power just fine if i isolate the battery by removing the ram trap. Been running it this way for about 5 days without issues. xapim said:

Do you mean i should discharge the battery completely? I dont have a voltmeter. Any other way I can check the adapter readings? Doesnt seem to be in HWinfo.
  • What he wants you to do, is a battery reset, see:
