My mouse receiver and the thumb drive that I plug in are no longer being recognized by my chromebook. Does anyone know if it is a software update issue or could I behaving a hardware issue?

Just to clarify, it is my USB gen 1, and my latest software version is 79.0.3945.119

It's possible to zap a USB port, which would stop the port from providing power to the device and no power means no working. Do you have anything else you can plug in that would light up? That could tell you if the hardware is at least providing power.

When I plug a phone in, it starts to charge it

OK, so some function is still there. I assume you've tested both devices either on a different port or different system and we can rule them out as issues? Are you still in warranty?

Yes, both devices work in my PC and they work on my Chromebook when I use a USB-C to USB-A adapter.

    I am still in warranty.

Then lets let Acer support figure it out. I'm guessing there's a hardware issue with that port, but uncertain how to further diagnose it. Let's see what they do to fix it.
