Hi my names scout.

At the end of 2018 for Christmas I bought a Helios 300 (i7-8750h 1060ti version 60hz). For a really REALLy long time I have been struggling with an issue. I want to play my games at good frames so that means I need to have my charger plugged in and past 41%, while gaming my fan is always max, I clean out my laptop every 4-5 months without voiding warranty (Blowing out dust with compressed air can etc), I have a mid range laptop cooling pad and it is undervolted. I check my temps regularly and it usually sits at about 82-85 while gaming. The thing is I can’t play games for more than at least 15-30 minutes before I get an error of either 3. 1 being my laptop just either completely shuts off and I need to turn it on again, 2 being my laptop restarting at random and 3 being I get a blue screen saying something went wrong and my PC needs to restart. I had a slight solution being I kept my Charge between 41% and 10% at all times but I got absolutely horrible frames and for gaming on competitive games like Rust, csgo and R6 it was really annoying. I can almost guarantee I have tried basically everything ranging from; factory reseting my PC at least 3 times, updating all drivers, installing windows to latest and earlier versions, updating BIOS, cleaning out PC, making out fans and laptop cooler fans at all times while gaming, undervolting to 0.125w, uninstalling norton, reinstalling norton, always starting games when my charger is plugged in and at 100% and making sure that every single screw, component isn’t loose. I feel like I have tried everything and I am running out of patience before I give up and wait for the slow and long process of Acer giving me a warranty replacement, I have videos, screenshots etc of the incidents occurring and my reliability history always says “Windows was unexpectedly shut down”. Is there any possible solutions I may have missed because I am sick and tired of not being able to do the one thing I bought the laptop for.

Kind regards,
Scout_131

One thing I forgot to mention is that sometimes instead of restarting, shutting off on its own it just stays frozen in a screen until I turn it off.

Well I’ll try. First I don’t know what program you used to undervolt but disable it and return your CPU to normal then use the pre configured custom Throttlestop profiles one of our experienced gamers made. They are simple to use, well tested and safe, more importantly they work. Click the link below

Next I would repaste with Grizzly Kryonaut but leave the Thermal Pads alone, Acer stock paste is not good and repasting has helped a lot if users

Scout_131 well to start 1060ti doesnt exist what you have its  just a gtx 1060 :) and you shouldnt ever do any kind or high demanding tasks without having it on AC and the battery 100% charged thats how gaming laptops were designed to work the battery its just a extra power pack that kicks in to aid the adapter when this one cant provide enough power to the cpu/gpu so do us a favor fist of all check your battery wear if it has more than 20% wear you would probably want to replace it for a new one and also as i said never game on battery always on AC and never start any game without the battery 100% charged also enable the performance powerplan and make sure the games are setup manually on nvcp to run on the Dgpu and not the IGPU and for older games like csgo you cant increase any settings the lower you are the more fps you have old games were not designed neither optimized for gpus that didnt even existed when they came out and the you have games like rust,MHW,fortnite, pubg that are poorly optimized (devs fault) also when you get bsods check the error and search for it on google or get bluescreen viewer and check it yourself what exact file created the bsod also try to roll back the gpu drivers to an older driver 3/6 months old or older use ddu to completely remove it or when installing it select custom and clean install i only update my dgpu drivers once because of bf5 and bo wouldnt run on stock and im on the same driver since never had issues (416.94) regarding any other drivers they are all stock my windows updates are completely disable since day 1 and im still and sticking to 1809 best version so far unless someone needs game pass which its only available on 1903+ i wont advise upgrading especially 1909 its a complete nightmare worst version of all followed by 1803

And bare in mind that just in case if you upgraded to 1903+ theres no way to go back it will rewrite the stock recovery to not allow downgrade through the stock (every time you run the stock recovery will be stuck to the latest version you were on) only way its to complete wipe everything loosing the stock and install it via a previous version iso burned in a usb bootable drive what everyone should do first thing out of the box should be creating a acer usb recovery drive via care center to keep it just in case something happens and i hope you manage to get it sorted anyhow :)

Thanks for your help but I took it back yesterday after giving up hope and Harvey Norman were able to identify the issue (with the CPU). Thanks for your help.

So lesson to people in the same situation, don’t be lazy take it back ASAP.
