I am interested in purchasing the Acer Iconia One B3-A50 HD - is it possible to install Ubuntu?

if it is not an Intel/AMD/ARM cpu then little chance, there is Linux distro available.
Besides, your device is running Android, so the firmware is also special, I mean not a typical BIOS/UEFI firmware.
Linux is also not yet customized for tablet devices.

So very unlikely you will find a Linux distro like Ubuntu that will run on your device, which gives you also the tablet experience you get from Android. Besides Android will run much more smooth than Linux on any device.

    Hi ed4myra

    Thank you for your reply.

The tablet has a MediaTek Cortex A35 processor (https://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/series-features/iconiaone10) - which according to the following link this is a 64-bit ARM processor - Cortex A35 low power ARMv8 64-bit processor:

I have spoken to a few members of the Ubuntu Touch community over the weekend and they have had great success with running Ubuntu on various tablets including a few that are Acer with the touchscreen working without any problems.
I am going to wait until my warranty runs out before I attempt this.

    Thanks again

Good luck but I think you will get frustrated by the limited functionality and hardware limitations compared with your Android experience. Perhaps you can try first if you can run limited Linux in a terminal windows with an unrooted Android device using ConnectBot

    Hi ed4myra

    Thank you for your reply.

I will give the ConnectBot a try and take it from there.
