various issues Swift 3 SF314-57-77MU

Hi guys,

I have bought this laptop in November 2019 - Acer Swift 3 SF314-57-77MU with Windows 10 Home. All drivers are up-to-date, BIOS 1.12. There were like 10 blue screens of death while using it for the first 2 hours. I did clean install of Windows the very day it had arrived. In hindsight not a very clever solution as I was not able to send it back. It solved the BSOD issue though. My other issues with it:

1. Is it normal that touchpad is wobbly? I mean, you can hear the click after touching it - without really making the actual click.

2. Microphone isn't working properly. Drivers are ok, Windows is showing the hardware is fine. Yet making the call (Skype for example) is not possible because the other person can not hear you - only buzzing noise.

3. Display won't reduce the brightness after plugging the charging cable off. Can not find where to set this up.

4. It can't turn off the display without going to sleep at the same time - and it does so even while watching a video or listening to the music. I know I can set the values to not to turn off the display and never go to sleep but that's not really a solution.

5. Fans are noisy and laptop is warm - even when no programs are running, reaching 94 Celsius degrees.

Thank you in advance if anybody can help with any of the issues and sorry for my English.

    1. Yes. Build quality is a big problem on this modell. Had to return 3 devices and none were flawless. Noisy Touchpad without actually pressing or tilted touchpad are common issues. Mine is manufactured 2019/10/08. What is your date (Sticker backside of device)

    2. Yes. Haven't used it much yet but my conversional partner has mentioned that my microphone is very quite

3+4. Luckily no Display problems yet

    5. Yes. This processor gets really hot. I even reached 96°C on peaks while playing games. On casual tasks like browsing i constantly reach peak temperatures of 92°C

Thank you. Production date is 2019/09/25. It's not just the touchpad - the links (I don't know the correct English term - where a piece of plastic joins another piece) are also very irregular. For me it's particularly sad because I paid 1000+ € for the highest configuration. What were your next steps after they kept sending you not properly built and working product? Did you eventually surrender?

Due to lack of alternatives i indeed did surrender. Getting a small discount on my device didn't make me feel better. Probably gonna change this device when alternatives are around.

And yes those devices have serveral flaws.
First one: touchpad noise, wobbly base and small scratch on top cover
second one: touchpad tilted, cracked cover and inaccurated welded cover
third one: 2 deep scratches on front cover (i couldnt understand how their QA havent seen those scratches

All bezels had small gaps between top cover and that plastic frame/bezel. Did you mean that by irregular links?

Exactly that and those bezels have rough edges too, when you move your finger around you can feel something's wrong. The same goes for "links" under the display - where air from fans comes out.

One more thing - are your speakers weak as well? I have volume set at 100 - and it's not enough. My previous laptop which I still use rather than the new one is significantly louder at 20.

Oh rough edges are good points. It is not only that plastic frame/bezel but even the edges of the metal body have rough spots like it isnt polish correctly. At least the bigger front parts are smooth but none of the edges/side parts.

A month ago i've started a thread about build quality issues. No one answered. Glad to see that im not alone

Speakers aint the best. Especially if you compare it to a Zenbook. It is indeed very quite but in quite enviroment enough to watch a youtube video. Dont think that this is a production issue but just bad speakers

Hi, I recently started having this problem a few days ago…The keys on the keyboard of the Acer Swift 3 is somehow set in the keys that would be used if you pressed the Fn key. For example, whenever I try to use keys such as J, it keeps typing 1 instead. The same thing happens when I try to type K, L, U, I, O. It just keeps typing the numbers instead of the letters. And I haven’t pressed the Fn key to make this happen. I’ve tried going to the settings on the laptop, but I haven’t found anything to fix this. If someone could help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated!

It looks like you have number lock (NumLk) on. Press F12 or Fn+F12 to toggle between the numeric and the normal alpha keys.
