Spin 1 SP111-33: reboot loop after reset

I had to reset my notebook. The reset procedure went seemingly well, with screen showing "ACER Resetting computer: xx %" counting up to 100% and then rebooting without any warnings. Immediately after reset the notebook went into an infinite reboot loop, though. I've waited for a half an hour, then power cycled it several times, but it didn't help. I can get to BIOS. If any has any suggestions they will be welcome.

"Infinite reboot loop" could be so many things... Where is it rebooting? Do you get the Acer splash screen then the reboot? Does it get to the juggling balls and then the reboot? Does it get to the last black screen before the login, then reboot? As much detail as you can give us will help immensely in pinning it down.

Sorry for letting out details. The reboot loop is on Acer splash screen, it stays for 15 second and then goes black for a couple of seconds and then again to splash screen. It does look like boot drive got corrupted after reset. I can get to BIOS setting and it looks OK, drive is detected.

OK, likely the UEFI load then. Do a bit of Googling on UEFI repair and use a Windows install image to see if you can get it back. Verify that your drive is still GPT and hasn't been switch to MBR and that the little (about 100MB) EFI partition is still there.

I just did a bit more troubleshooting. For some reason I can not boot from USB drive or MicroSD - the only option in the BIOS or F12 is "Windows Boot Manager". From the other hand pressing Alt-F10 when notebook tries to boot (BTW, this hotkey would be a very useful information for people trying to troubleshoot) brings me to Windows Recovery screen. The first thing I tried is to reset the computer again (choosing option about erasing all my files). The resetting went without any issues, but did not fix anything - the symptoms are the same.

Next thing I've tried "Automatic boot repair" a couple of times, which said once that it repaired something, but nothing have changed.

Next step will be using command prompt, bootrec, diskpart etc. If you have any suggestions I would be happy to hear them.

    Thanks,

You likely need to turn Secure Boot off in your BIOS to enable booting from a flash drive. That still won't allow booting from an SD card, but the USB boot should then be working.

I have disabled "secure Boot" in BIOS, but boot options still do not show bootable USB drives.

How did you create the Windows install flash drive?

Yes, after some googling I've realized that Spin recognizes only UEFI GPT formatted boot disks. So I've installed USB drive with latest Microsoft Windows 10 ISO, and after a couple of tries Spin has installed it and everything seems peachy.

    Thanks for your support!

Great! It's pretty normal now for a system to only do UEFI, and within the next couple of years the possibility to boot in Legacy mode will go away on all new models since that functionality is being removed from the chipsets.
