a510 screen flicker

Hi,

 

I've noticed some screen flickering on my Iconia a510 tablet. It could have been since the update to 4.1.2, but I'm not 100% on that. It seems to be more noticable on apps with a white background (internet browser, logo quiz app), you see a couple of lines flicker vertically across the screen.

 

I tried turning the Auto-Brightness feature off, just in case that was playing up, but no joy. I've got about 3 months left on the Warranty and I'm just getting concerned that it might be a hardware fault, although searching the internet I can't see that others have had this problem.

    Hi Nick,


    Same happens to me: same model (A510) and same OS (4.1 2 JB).

    I upgraded to JB last year using Acer package distribution and everything worked fine up to more or less one month ago when the device started with these lines appearing onto the screen randomly. I noticed that it was more frequent when surfing with Google Chrome thus I thought that it was a SW problem of Google Chrome but now it happens also w/ other apps. In my opinion could be an HW issue but it is strange (although possible) that it comes up after more of less six months of usage.


    If you succeed in solving that please keep me informed, I'll do the same

    Hi Giancarlo,

     

    Sorry it's taken me a while to update this.

     

    I sent the tablet off for repair in the end, as it was still under warranty. Acer said that they re-seated the LCD display wire or something, I was sceptical and have been proved right because it still flickers. I have also now noticed it flicker on the main screen, which I had never seen happen before, so I'm hoping it's not getting worse.

     

    I still can't find much about this problem online though and I'm 1 month over my warranty period now. I may call up Acer and have another moan, if it's the same fault then hopefully they'll have another look at it.

    Hi Nick,

     

    If it is still flickering then I would be sending it back.  There is probably some timescale on how long you can declare having the same problem as when you first sent it in. 

     

    Best to do it fast ! Smiley Happy
