Yeah not sure where the conflict in setting is then since I'm not on your laptop myself.

There should be a huge drop in temperatures especially using -200mV less than stock lol. My only guess is the undervolt isn't being applied for some reason.
I think I will just reset windows and try CPU undervolt alone to see if it returns to the way my temps used to be... If not I guess I'll have to repaste with my CoolerMaster Mastergel Pro as a final effort
You could try reinstalling Intel AHCI, Intel VGA & Intel Chipset drivers from Acers website and see if that helps first?

I tried reinstalling them as you suggested earlier... Unfortunately it didn't make any difference... I appreciate your effort to try and help me with my issue.. Thanks a lot...

If you follow my overclock/undervolt guide it drops temps further for both CPU & GPU.

For witcher 3 I run max 68/65 C for CPU/GPU at all ultra (hairworks on geralt only) avg 60 fps with dips to 55 & capped fps at 65. (Set from nvidia inspector tool)
This is a combination with my throttlestop setup.
I did... I just noticed that my TS wasn't on. The 8.6 version wasn't starting up. So loaded the 8.5 version and it started up. Will try W3 again tonight and see how the temps fare this time.

There you go... with TS, this was much much better. I have hair works for all :-) fps locked at 60, with vsync on.

Mostly in 70s... peaking at 86 -- about 10-15 degrees cooler than without TS.

    Solid drop brother!
How about MSI? Would you mind sending screen shots of the setup?

    @Red-Sand

Sure... here you go. I prefer TS for its simplicity, and non install version which makes troubleshooting it much easier.

Good stuff. Yeah TS is def my go-to for UV.

Can I ask what your CPU % is when idling and nothing's open?

    Apps on:
    Steam
    Firefox
    Avast Internet Security
    IObit Malware Fighter

Normally less than 5%, with atleast 2 cores parked. When the above apps are unused for like 15-30 seconds as many as 4-6 cores out of 8 go into parked state.

Ah, before you ask, here are temps when I leave the system in idling for 15-20 seconds.

I'd like to make a suggestion..
I personally would get rid of avast and the 3rd party malware scanner & use windows defender.

Windows defender is perfectly adequate for protection as long as you don't use torrents etc.

It also is integrated into windows and as a result runs smoother then a 3rd party AV, especially for gamers.
Also have you seen this video?

IObit i would be removing anyways... Avast, nah! I'd rather keep it on. I have been using it for well over 7-8 years now, the paid version, and its been keeping me pretty safe.

@Red-Sand, could it be that my GPU undervolt isn't working right because I am on version 398.11 of Nvidia driver for my 1060?

GPU undervolt... i thought GPU undervolt was for integrated Intel GPU only.

Following @Red-Sand's tutorial you can undervolt the 1060/1050ti in the notebook...
It didn't work for me but everyone seems to be having success with it... so I thought maybe me having the latest driver is causing issues with the undervolt...

If I were you, I would refrain from undervolting 1060/1050, with the reason being as simple as nvidia releasing some update or other every couple weeks or so. Intel updates on the other hand come in rarely.
Frequent updates could also mean they could be setting up new things or updating things with reserve voltage in place. Reducing it could cause unintended effects.
@Red-Sand no offense to your intelligence buddy

I checked today morning... Fresh cold boot waking up from hibernate. Same apps - steam, browser and all... and Predator Sense open to see temps.

Temps around 38-42 for CPU, and 36-40 for GPU... until i started to work on it. Utilization 0-3%.

Well I finally got to resetting my windows... And updated all the drivers to their latest versions and the problem persisted so I looked into the Nvidia Drivers... I noticed that there were quite a few updates around the time the problem showed up... So I went back to a version of the driver which didn't show any problems and it sorta helped as you can see from the graph my max was 85 with auto fans and that spike was only when I exited fortnite which caused the CPU spike...

This post is a little old, but i wanted to add my experience to it as this is one of the few posts i found on the issue.
I purchased an i7 gtx 1060 helios about 6months ago for my daughter for gaming and school.
she is a heavy fortnite player. she recently told me she is dropping frames so i checked the temps and was staggered to find that with fortnite idling cpu temps were 70c+ and the moment she started playing the cpu would hit 93-95c and stay there, even though cpu only 40% GPU also excessively hot.

did a bunch of research for a few days and found that a common issue is the thermal paste acer is installing.. they are clearly cheapskates or incompetent in these areas on this model of computer

bought a tube of arctic MX-4 and took the laptop apart and redid the thermal paste with a nice clear smooth layer and rebooted the computer. the cost to me ordering and delivering isopropyl alcohol and mx4 was about $20 where i am currently in Manila, but the cost of the used quantity.. prob about about $0.10c of materials

started up the game.. turned on max cpu throttle, and auto fan use.. at 60fps as before, but now with all game settings on epic, rather than the previous low and medium we are getting the highest quality renderings and the cpu has not gone over 70c in 90minutes of full use, avg 65c.. the GPU is equally much cooler.. This is about a 28c drop in temp from proper application of thermal paste.. incredible how bad they can be..

if you are having issues with heat on a helios, and you dont know how to tear it apart. i highly reccomend you take it to a reliable laptop repair centre and get it repasted with a quality paste.

Hi, I appreciate you providing your feedback despite this being quite an old post... I'm glad that the repaste worked for you because when I tried it it made barely any difference and I was frustrated... I decided to disassemble the fans in the laptop and that's where I found my problem... There was a lot of dust clogging the spaces between the metal fins at the vents... I had to buy a precision screwdriver for it but it was pretty cheap and worth it after so many attempts at repasting and figuring out what it could be... My laptop runs all fine now... I forgot the temps because I fixed the issue a few months ago and forgot to update this thread. I haven't really been bothered by temps anymore but they are at a point that I'm okay with...
