Aspire M3985 is entering the BIOS on its own

Hi all,

I wonder can anyone help or offer advice, I have an upgraded Aspire M3985 desktop that (self) enters the BIOS on startup, not every time I boot but very often! It is difficult to get out of the BIOS when this happens choosing exit without saving or exit and reset doesn't matter as it just enters the BIOS again. I usually just press the power button on the case to shut it down then pressing it again usually boots into windows.

I have tried resetting (reinstalling) windows and that makes no difference, this issue may have started after a reset of windows but I'm not 100% certain of that.

Also sometimes when Windows does boot the display settings have changed from 1920 X 1080 down to 1600 X 1200 and cannot be changed to any higher resolution in display settings.  Only way to reset it to the correct value I found was to either reboot the PC, or disable then re-enable the display adaptor in device manager. I'm not sure if both these issues are related?

Some specs of the PC:

B85M-E BIOS version: 2105
Windows 10 (Home) all up to date
Intel Core I5 -4590 CPU @ 3.30GHz
Memory 8192mb  (DDR3 1333Mhz)
Display adaptor : AMD Radeon HD6670 ( 2GB).
Monitor: Acer S240HL 24" (connected via VGA )

Any help or advice on solving this issue would be greatly appreciated!!

Have you upgraded the HDD? If so
    (a) Disconnecting and reconnecting HDD
    (b) changing the boot order and save settings in BIOS - looks like something needs to be saved in BIOS

One more thing you could try - If there is a newer version available, that could also be tried, try to install the latest version of BIOS.
Thanks for your reply Piter, I think it has it's original HDD from what I remember, it currently has a 1TB Seagate Barracuda anyway. ( with 2 X 500gb partitions)

The problem seems to have resolved itself, I have re booted the machine at least 30 or 40 times over the past two days and it boots up normally each time! I disconnected the HDD today like you advised and booted the machine without it and it booted into the BIOS so I shut it down again and reconnected the HDD and it again boots correctly I have rebooted it several times since and all looks good!

I changed the boot sequence to every possible combination of the 3 available choices DVD drive, HDD or UEFI, however every time I try to save the changes it tells me that I haven't made any changes but it boots up correctly with each combination. I also made sure the ram is seated correctly. So fingers crossed the problem has gone permanently.
