Out of warranty repair- A500

I have two Acer Iconia 500 tablets for my wife and I .

Both Tablets are out of Warranty .  We really do like

them and would prefer not to have to dispose of either.

My wifes A500 touchscreen has stopped working.

The screen itself is fine, and the unit was never dropped

or damaged physically.  It simply stopped working after a boot up, during a flight

It was shut down for take off then touchscreen failed after takeoff.

Occasionally it works for a few minutes, once even a hour, but usually does not function.

I also have set the touch panel sensitivity to the highest setting but that has no effect.

Having been an electronics tech for over 40 years I opened the tablet

and checked the touch screen input and cables for loose connections, etc,

but there has been no change in the intermittent function of the touch screen.

An external USB mouse does work, but is not a good substitute.

The SNID of the malfunctioning tablet is

How can I arrange for an out of warranty repair , or at least get an estimate for a repair?

My tablet is also out of warranty. I did somehow end up connected with Acer UK. They agree I need repairs but the website is less than helpful when trying to find information.

The tablet was working fine. After being powered off; it will no longer start. It buzzes like it is powering on; the Acer screen comes on and then it goes blank again. It continues to try to start with the same cycle until I power off again.

Any help would be appreciated. I would hate to throw it away. Seems like a waste.

    Thank you,

    Stacy

I have two A500s and have rooted and flashed them both successfully.

One day my main tab, the other is for the family, was working then it just stopped. It would boot to the "Acer" logo and go no further. I left it like that all night with no result.

So, I figure that I'll just flash a new rom to fix it. I tried 6 or 8 different roms; all booted only partially like before. I did a factory reset, flipping the screen lock back and forth. Still would only boot part way and hold. I continued to look for different roms (what do they say when you keep trying the same thing expecting different results?).

Now the tab doesn't seem to come on at all; that is the screen stays dark. The light on the power button comes on and I can turn it off by holding for 10 seconds and turn it on again. I connected to my PC and it requested a driver which I installed. the PC makes the "new hardware" sound but I don't find it in "My Computer".

I have tried to access it via “adb devices”, but no devices are detected.

This is the extent of my efforts and knowledge. If anyone is able to help please email me at donald@dwnorman.net. I have been reading the blogs and am posting this to several blogs so I might not find your answer if it is to the blog only.

    Btw,

I did find a post that describes something like this on an A200 at this blog:

    http://www.acertabletforum.com/forum/acer-iconia-a200-help/5895-solved-my-a200-wont-turn.html

I'm tempted to attempt it if I don't find an answer specific to the A500.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP!!!

    PS

I have tried the A200 technique without affect.

    Hi

I have an Acer Iconia A500. It's out of warranty.

One day, while turning it on, it failed to boot, and was stuck on the acer logo.

I tried to flash it, but the problem wasn't solved, now it gets stuck at the android robo with red triangle stage.

Als, soon after, the screen got slightly damaged.

I am very fond of this tablet. Is there a way to get it repaired at an official outlet here in Delhi (without paying the price of a new one, I must add).

Please help, I would really appreciate it.

    Dear Acer Technician,

My Acer A501 tablet has the exact same symptom that scottxray described below. Could you tell me where I can get it fixed in Northern California? I really want my beloved tablet to start working again.

    Thanks,

    Tony

If you are in the US or Canada, you can send me a private message with your name, telephone number, email address, and I will have someone contact you. If you are outside the US or Canada, you would need to contact technical support in your region to inquire about repair.

I've had an A500 for 17 months.  Worked fine until this morning, now the power button does nothing.  It's like something behind it broke.  The charging light works when I plug it in but I can't get it to come on.

    Help.

This has to be one of he most painful thingsSmiley Frustrated. My tablet like others power button sunken in and has dislocated itself. If you shake the acer you can hear it moving around. I contacted multiple groups to get this thing fix due to it being out of warranty and I'm ready to scream. ALL I want is for it to work. I don't feel like going through all this hassle. I need a fair price and a repair. Does anyone know some where that will fix tablets?

Hello,  I am looking at this tablet for a friend and the power switch has gone bad.  She took it to a local computer guy and he took the switch out and was going to ripp her $250 by selling here a refurbished unit.  SHe said now way and for some reason he kept the old switch.  I am an Electrical Engineer and can use some help here.  I would like to just buy the switch and replace it for her.  Please help...

I would like assistance on how to repair one of these as I have one which does not power up - it may be as siimple as a battery issue, but I would like to at least know my options in paid repair. Thank you in advance.

As several have already stated on this board, the power button on my tablet has been dislodged and the tablet has become a glorified paper weight. Any assistance regarding repair would be helpful.  Thanks.

I also have an out of warranty A500 that needs repair.  My volume switch is cracked and the tilt/position sensor is not working (when my son tries to "drive" his car, the steering doesn't respond and other apps that require position sensing don't function either).  Where could I go to get an estimate on repairing it?  I'm in Ohio.
