As the question suggests I'm struggling to get my ssd recognised on this particular laptop, I Know you can change the HDD to an SSD however my Samsung 850 evo always says no storage media detected. Has anyone else had the same issues and how did you get round them, if not does anyone know what ssds will work with this laptop. Thanks in advanced for the help!!

Firstly, the Samsung 850 Evo works with the Acer Aspire A315-41-R18T. Can you be more specific, show us a caption of 'Disk Manager' and/or when you are getting the "no storage media detected"? Is this a boot drive? Is this a slave drive? Is this a second hand drive that has been formatted in any way? I've used the Samsung 850 EVOs and PRO for more than 4 years on many computers (as boot and slave drives, MBRs and GPTs) and I've never experienced "no storage media detected". If you are using the 850 EVO as a boot drive and you used "Data Migration" (did you?) because, that is what "Data Migration" is for, otherwise, if you are using this drive for a slave and a MBR slave drive, its just "plug and play". Has the drive been formatted? etc etc see captions below from 'Disk Manager' of different partitions of a boot drive GPT and a slave drive MBR setup and an article of "External HDD not showing up" and let us know what affects your SSD?

I did use data migration to get my copy of windows on there, and that works as I've tested it against a desktop pc, the partitions seem fine and it'll boot a desktop pc into windows. It seems every time I plug the drive into the laptop it becomes undetectable and just pops no storage media message on the screen (I cant screen shot it as there no way too)
