This company (ACER) XXXXXXXX. I bought the new ACER Nitro on the basis of reviews on the net but when I got my laptop it was a version 54 and back of the machine has no upgrade panels as on the previous (reviewed) machines. There was a note in the box saying "if you want to add another drive (M.2) or other HDD then you must take the machine to a service agent. I don't know how many people on this forum know this but I think it stinks. In fact I am about to return the machine back to the retailer.

This model is easily and commonly upgraded by the user and this is a warranty issue only and not an issue that it is not possible for the user to carry it out.
Warranty terms are dependent on the country and I'm not sure what the terms are in New Zealand, that may be a generic sticker and the best thing to do is call Acer support for your region (Link below). For example that sticker is illegal in the USA and from my understanding Acer usually give you the go ahead to do it yourself but double check. If your laptop is the AN515-54 you have 2 expansion bays for NVMe PCLe as well as the 2.5" SATA. You have to remove the whole underside of the laptop there are no doors but it's easy to do, full upgrade video below.

Yup at others have already stated fully upgradable. Smaller access panels would have been preferred yet removing whole bottom panel isn't really a biggie, doing so does allow for access to other components at same time so there are benefits. Just upgraded my Nitro AN515-54, two M.2 MVMe SSDs, a 2.5" SATA SSD, and 32GB RAM, so it's definitely doable.

Thanks for your experience in this. I was just concerned about the warranty, which acer warned me about. After a year no problem.
There was absolutely nothing on mine (stickers or the like) indicating warranty would be void if opened so just went ahead with it. Even if there were more than likely would have taken the plunge anyway as that's just me.

I just got this model, Nitro AN515-54 a week ago, and while the two service ports for HD / Memory are now gone, its not that hard to take the back off. I believe there are 11 Phillips head screws to remove, then using a plastic prying tool, the back comes off fairly easy. I just did a RAM upgrade and added a new M.2 drive. If you are unfamiliar with the process, there are tons of videos on Youtube on how to remove the back panel on this model.
