wanting to upgrade my Aspire XC-605 (LGA1150) PC
just wanted to check that these parts are compatible as theres not alot of info online for this old board.
- Intel Core i7-4790K (4.0Ghz) LGA1150 also is this the best cpu for gaming that my old mobo can take?
-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5
-Patriot 16GB Black Mamba DDR3 1600MHz

Thanks in advanced, if you have any suggestions please let me know.

Yes, that's the biggest, baddest processor the MB will support. You want to make sure that memory is a pair of 8GB cards, not a single 16GB. You want matched speeds and clocks between the two sticks or else they'll both run at the lower of the two. You are going to have to source a bigger power supply to use that GPU. You have 220W only, they recommend no less than 500W.

Here's the reasons why you don't want to do that upgrade (in my opinion).

    1.  The power supply in the XC-605 is not a standard ATX power supply because the case is so small.  I can't remember what it's called (flex something).  Probably the biggest power supply you're going to find of that type is 350 watts....which is inadequate.

    2.  You're going to have to buy another case and transfer everything over so you can use a standard ATX power supply.

    3.  I don't think the 4790K was officially qualified by Acer (I could be wrong).  The 4790 will work, but you might need the latest BIOS since it's Haswell Refresh.  The XC-605 doesn't support overclocking for the K.

    4.  The 4790/4790K is expensive.

    5.  The XC-605 wasn't designed for heavy gaming and your temps will probably be pretty hot due to limited clearance.

    6.  The Desktop in link below with i5-9400 is faster than i7-4790.  You don't have to buy a new case. You don't have to buy ram. You don't have to spend money on the CPU.  It comes with a 500 GB ssd. You can upgrade to i7 in future.  It's only $500.00

    7. You won't see any real performance gain by going with Patriot Black Mamba CL=9.  Negligible.  Especially when compared to DDR4 in link below.  DDR4 2666 is much faster than the DDR3 1600.

thanks for your advice, i actually already have a new case with good air flow and a larger powersupply and a good cpu cooler as i have gtx 770 at the mo which wouldnt fit in the old xc605 case im only using the motherboard out of the 605 untill i can upgrade it in a few months. i had looked at the i5-9400 before and seen how it preforms better however im able to get i7-4790 off a friend of mine for alot cheaper than the i5
