For a while the on button had been sticking when pressed, so I left it switched on 24/7 but on Christmas day after we had a power surge with only the lights upstairs and plug sockets in the kitchen going off I decided to switch it off. It's only since then it will not work I have tried to switch it on in another room just the unit no monitor mouse or keyboard and it still doesn't work, so I am thinking it's either the on button psu or cable.

Can someone please advise me?

Thanks

Sounds like you are thinking in the right direction. Do you have, or have access to, a VOM? If so you could remove the front bezel and test continuity through the power switch. Even one of the beeping circuit testers might help here. Usually when the power switch goes bad it's a pretty easy fix.

No I don't have a VOM sorry, on avg how much to repair it if it is the on button?

    Thanks for the help

I was thinking of an upgrade when I get paid in Jan or after I get my rebate off the tax man as I'm classed as self employed.

If it's just the button I would expect a repair bill pretty close to the minimum charge for a repair technician. They may have to order a compatible switch. That will likely be something like this one. and it shouldn't take anywhere near a half hour to replace.

I went to 1 "Computer repair shop" where I got there's nothing worth doing to it as I cannot turn it on, your next best thing is that acer £89, not happy with his response I decided to go elsewhere he got voltage metre out nothing from the psu so I bought 1 ebay £29.99 plus £20 to have him replace it and we' re back up and running.
