Predator Helios 300 - headset problems

Hi,

I've had problems with using my microphone for a while now. At first I thought that it was a failing headset, but it seems that my laptop is not using it at all. It keeps using the built-in one which is barely usable. I checked if it's detecting it as a headset not headphones. I reinstalled the audio drivers three times. My microphone is not muted manually nor in the privacy settings. I also checked another set and it's the same issue. I've seen numerous people asking the same question and none of the answers I found helped me. I'm really close to just giving up on this thing and using my phone instead. i've been looking for weeks now and this is my last resort.

Sorry if I sound mad, I am, but mostly at my own lack of skills regarding this subject.

If you right click on the speaker icon, open sound settings, what is listed as your input device? There is usually a drop down there where you can select the device you want to use.

    Is your preferred device there?

Nothing additional apperas when I plug in a headset. I can only see the default device. I was able to set up microphone in the speech recognition tab. The external mic seems to be working now though I can't hear anything except when I blow air into it. I'm going to find another headset and check if it will be working

Sounds good, I'll try to help out as best I can. You might also disable or uninstall the Waves Maxx Audio app/program if that is still on your machine. I'm not sure if that's the problem, but that program gave me a lot of trouble. Better off letting Windows handle the audio chores in my opinion.

As I said, nothing pops up when plugging in a headset. I've set it as a default option so the "headphones - headset" issue will never happen. After restarting my laptop the mic started to work somehow but very very queitly, I had to boost it quite a bit. I guess the headset I have is pretty crappy on its own. Waves Maxx Audio was never in my system. I'll keep you updated in case of something happening.
