Why is my Helios 300 PH315-52 running the RAM at only 2400MHz?

My laptop model is the PH315-52, and as far as I know this laptop supports the 2666MHz. I recently bought the Crucial Ballistix 32gb kit to upgrade it but in cpu-z tells me that it's only running at 2440.

Is there any way to make it run up to 2666MHz?

this is my RAM https://www.amazon.com/Ballistix-16GBx2-PC4-21300-SODIMM-260-Pin/dp/B06XRBS4Y5/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?keywords=Crucial+Ballistix+Sport+LT+BLS2K16G4S26BFSD+Memoria+Gaming+Kit+per+Computer+Portatile%2C+2666+MHz%2C+DDR4%2C+DRAM%2C+32+GB&qid=1574954101&sr=8-2-fkmr0

Yes, your mainboard bus supports any DDR4 RAM module rated at 2400MHz or higher speeds. However, the bus only operates at 1200MHz maximum between the CPU and RAM for a maximum effective throughput of 2400MHz for double-data rate RAM. Doesn't matter if the RAM is rated at 2400MHz, 2267MHz, 2933MHz etc etc, the bus can only deliver 2400MHz between the RAM and the CPU.  Jack E/NJ

What was your old RAM? Was it showing up as 1333x2 (2666)? Or was that too showing up as 1200x2 (2400)?

  • Hi @Saverio
These modules start at 2400MHz and it overclock to 2666MHz whenever the system needs more speed, have a look at the XMP column in CPU-z.

Becoz 2400 is in jedec profile and laptop can use only this type by default, 2666 is in xmp but to use it you need to unlock bios

Well I think there's no actual way to make it run up to 2666MHz without unblocking the BIOS. but thanks everybody who helped me... I ended up returning the RAM to the seller as it was malfunctioning on my laptop anyways.
