Internet dropping from WiFi connection Predator Triton 500 PT515-51

Hi everyone,

I have had my Predator Triton 500 laptop for a few weeks. For some reason the WiFi connection frequently loses the internet connection. The WiFi remains connected. Most times disconnecting and reconnecting the WiFi connection from the desktop menu bar pop up resolves the issue, but not always. My mobile phone does not lose WiFi internet connection so I end up tethering it to my laptop to access the internet.

There might be a pattern where it tends to happen during streaming, online gaming, or file uploads and downloads, but that is not 100% certain.

I have updated drivers via windows, updating directly led me to update the Killer Control Centre but I am not 100% certain that it is the best way to update the drivers from the manufacturer.

The network adaptor is: Killer(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX1650x 160MHz Wireless Network Adaptor (200NGW)
Driver is from Intel, date 6/10/2019, Driver Version 21.50.1.1

MikeToo either its a driver issue (check the driver properties and disable the power saving if any option available) or could even be your router that might not like the 5ghz data draining that the predator mimo wifi adapter have and kicks it out i would also check your router settings to find out if is there any option enabled that might be causing this issue

Turning off power saving has not fixed the issue.

The router is a Sagemcom 2704N. Apprently it only works on 2.4 GHz so I think "5ghz data draining" and MIMO are not relevant? Regarding the router settings, the ISP has really locked it down in the admin interface to keep things simple.

MikeToo well 2.4ghz inst no good for a gaming laptop i would get a 5ghz router or a good wifi ethernet AP/repeater like this one that will create either 2.4ghz/5ghz wifi connections via your router existing ethernet exit you can also search on google how to get root admin access to your router and unlock it back home i have a THOMSON TG784n which was completely locked by the isp and supposed to be un-rootable (lol) i rooted it and removed all the isp remote access ips so they cant access my router anymore basically i locked it down so hard that im the only one who can access it outside my home network

and i can access it anywhere on the web (after i unlocked it) to manage it from anywhere with my own dns, theres always a way you just have to find it

Sorry I have not replied for a while.

Not keen on rooting the router, especially since I don't yet have a definite setting to change that will resolve the issue.

Did have a dabble with an old WiFi access point but I think something is wrong with it as the signal was barely there even at point blank range.

I have been onto the ISP forum to see if they do some kind of traffic throttling that might cause this. No official answer yet but it seems unlikely.

However, one interesting idea is that the router is prone to buffer bloat. Or, there might be software on the laptop having similar issues. So far I have run a test on my phone and the ping does fluctuate into the 1 to 2 second range under load. Going to fire up the laptop later on and run the same test. My guess is that Windows is more sensitive to dropped packets than Android.

Hi. Have there been any recent BIOS updates relating to networking? Otherwise I guess I'm best not updating.

MikeToo none as im aware but you could do a lookup on acer support page for your own model and read all the bios update log notes

i would probably point it to your router are you able to try it anywhere else if so please do as see if the issues persists also i wouldnt count on your isp to assume they lock the traffic or the router settings to lower the wifi traffic they will always lie with all their teeth

as i said if you cant try it somewhere else or even get another good router (even borrowed) to test it you only need to get your sub username and pass from the current one and youre good to go if you dont have it the isp have to give it to you its in your own right to not want to use the router provided by them if you wanted to so they have to provide you the settings to use any other compatible of your own choice

I've been through quite a lot of diagnosis on the ISP's forum. It's down to bufferbloat on the laptop caused by poor messaging between the laptop and an old and inferior router supplied by the ISP. My mobile phone gets bufferbloat but tolerates it much better.
