I have just bought a Nitro 5 (AN515-52-56VN). Not really my first choice since it only comes with 4GB of RAM and it doesn't have an SSD I was actually looking for the Ryzen 5 option but the store is not offering that variant. Can I use an NVME SSD on it? Also, when I'm playing DOTA 2 the FPS drops and it's lag. Is this because of having a 4GB of RAM? Can I add 8GB of RAM on it? Please help.

jeraldrowell yes you can upgrade to a nvme but you dont need nvme at all if you will not be doing rendering works or you are a content creator its  a waste of money just for gaming in my view because normal sata its more than enough i have a wd blue 3d nand 2tb as you can see in my signature and 32gb hyperx 2666 and i suggest you to upgrade your ram to 16gb minimum dual channel 2X8 gb  for better performance do not mix sodimms from different clocks/size/CL because it will not work in dual channel and it will down clock to the lowest sodimm clock so 4gb X 8gb its big a no no

I apologize for the confusion. What I mean is if I can have 4GB and 8GB of RAM with the same clocks. Then upgrade later with another 8GB.

Yes you can, they do not have to be the same size and you would have 12gb. You can do that and upgrade later

@andylb as temporary anyone can use whatever confs/matches they want with the same type of ram even mix different clocks/CL (of course if done this way it will always run at the lowest sodimm clock) but for long term i dont recommend it its up to everyone and their own budget to buy whatever they can if they cant get a proper dual channel set go for it if not they will have to work with whatever they can get their hands on technically it should always work (without issues!)either way but dual is the proper way to go :)

I agree completely it was only for a temporary measure I believe. Matching RAM and matching CL is always preferable

@xapim so it's better to have a 2x4GB of RAM than 1x4GB of RAM and 1x8GB of RAM?

@xapim so it's better to have a 2x4GB of RAM than 1x4GB of RAM and 1x8GB of RAM?

No that is not true. This statement is true
    4gb x 8gb will perform better than 4gb x 4gb
    8gb x 8gb will perform better than 4gb x 8gb

4gb x 8gb is 12gb which performs better than the 8gb matching because you have 4gb more RAM, the extra 4gb more than makes up for not matching
What is true is that when using matching 8gb x 8gb dual channel with the same CL it will perform better than 8gb x 8gb with mismatched CL
Use the link below to Crucial, they guarantee compatibility with your exact model, I write down the part number and order from Amazon, it's faster and cheaper.

Thanks, I appreciate that. How about 4 x 8 with the same clocks?
Chances are you only have 2 memory slots.
I apologize for the confusion. What I mean is if I can have 4GB and 8GB of RAM with the same clocks. Then upgrade later with another 8GB.

Yes you can, they do not have to be the same size and you would have 12gb. You can do that and upgrade later

jeraldrowell yes you can upgrade to a nvme but you dont need nvme at all if you will not be doing rendering works or you are a content creator its  a waste of money just for gaming in my view because normal sata its more than enough i have a wd blue 3d nand 2tb as you can see in my signature and 32gb hyperx 2666 and i suggest you to upgrade your ram to 16gb minimum dual channel 2X8 gb  for better performance do not mix sodimms from different clocks/size/CL because it will not work in dual channel and it will down clock to the lowest sodimm clock so 4gb X 8gb its big a no no

andylb 4 x 8 its not dual channel so it will not perform better than dual channel you will have extra ram yes but that doesnt mean you will have better performance dunno where you got that from but what you said its not true i have tested it in loads of laptops and dual channel always wins and i dont agree with it as i said 8gb its not enough for anything these days and my advice will always be upgrade to 16gb dual channel minimum :)

@xapim so it's better to have a 2x4GB of RAM than 1x4GB of RAM and 1x8GB of RAM?
if you have a single 8gb sodim and you wanted to stay with the same amount 2X4gb its of course better because its working in dual channel but if you dont/cant upgrade to a proper dual channel set it wont harm to add extra 4 but as i said it will not be dual channel so dont expect much more performance

@xapim You and I will have to agree to disagree on this one, I do agree that matched dual channel is the better way to go and in my opinion and tests 4 x8 performs better than 4 x 4. The question was would it be better as a temporary measure and I think it will. Also, as a matter of interest however many others have achieved dual channel with  4gb x 8 gb. Ever since DDR2 its been possible to run mixed capacity modules in dual channel configurations depending on the MOB
