I bought is recently and it came with 8GB RAM by default. In the task manager, it shows I used only 1 slot of 2. I opened my laptop to check which RAM model I need to get to upgrade it to 16GB but I can't find another slot in the motherboard. Does anyone have similar laptop with the same issue and fixed? Please Help

The slot which I got is installed 8GB one. If there was 4GB by default that is not removable, it would show I have 12GB, not 8GB.

    Hi,
Normally you should have on-board memory and a slot for upgrade, you have to check the actual combination in your laptop, please install CPU-z free program and post the snips of SPD tab for all the slots.

    Hi,
It confuses me, according to service manual, this model has a on-board memory and a slot for upgrade but according to the CPU-z report for your laptop it looks like you may have two slots and no on-board memory, only way to find out is to open the back cover( provided that you don't have any warranty warning sticker on any of the screws at the bottom cover) and physically check whether you have two slots.
You can see from crucial site as well, it clearly states that your model has a on-board memory.

I did opened it and checked if there is an empty slot but unfortunately I can't see it. I can only see one slot which is filled with 8GB one (Is the same picture you sent previous without the back cover). Plus I'm not risking it to open further unless I have a confirmation that the other slot is inside.

Hello. Yes I know it is 2 slots but the problem is I cannot find the other slot in the motherboard when I opened the back cover. It shows only one slot which is filled with the 8GB one. So my problem here is, where is the other slot located in the motherboard?
  • If there is another ram slot, it must be under the keyboard, ie at the top of the motherboard.

The service manual of this model presents some contradictory information. See what it says here:

Yes it shows that but in my case is different. My one slot is 8GB and the other one is empty. I opened my back cover to check the ram, and the slot is filled with 8GB slot. Where is the other slot located? A515-54G-761G, i7-8565U, 1TB HDD + 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD, 8GB DDR4 Memory, That's my laptop reference and specs.
  • If there is another ram slot, it must be under the keyboard, ie at the top of the motherboard.

  • Check here:

Chances are there is an empty spot here, which should be to solder some ram.

If your mainboard bottom resembles the image below, you have only one replaceable RAM slot. Depending on the region where the laptop was sold, your mainboard's solderable slot may be empty(unfilled) or filled with  4GB, 8GB or 16GB DDR4. So the max RAM can be either 16GB, 20GB, 24GB or 32GB respectively. Accordingly, I think your model's max RAM is 16GB replaceable only unless  a 32GB DDR4 module is available/compatible. For that, I think I need to check with the company I bought with. I can't risk open it and check the motherboard, but thanks for the help.

It does look similar to this board but in my system it shows there are 2 slots in which only 1 is being used. So my question is where is the other slot located?
  • When the soldered rams memory slots are empty, windows identifies them as an expansion slot.

I don't understand the configuration at all, his CPU-z report says he has 8GB memory module installed, Task manager also reports that the laptop has 8GB, so what happened to the on-board memory?
Edit: Could an empty solderable slot possible?
