Factory default backup impossible- Acer Recovery Management frozen

Hello,

I can't create a backup of the drive of my newly purchased Aspire V5-171 11,6", running on Windows8.

The issue occurs while attempting trying to create a factory default backup using Acer Recovery Management.
I am using a 32Gb USB flash drive and followed all the steps, including "copy contents from the recovery partition to the recovery drive".
The files seem to be copying all right until the progress bar almost reaches the end. Then the process apparently simply stops. Nothing seems to be copied on the USB drive any more (no file transfer activity on the drive), and it is only half full.
Nothing happens at all, the software is frozen apparently.

Therefore, I am not sure the backup is complete, since I never reached the "The recovery drive is ready" screen... There are folders and files on the USB key, but I'm not sure this content will be usable to restore the system.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks

    Hello,

You will need a 16 GB or larger USB drive to create your backup.

    Please consult the following site:

    Thx for the answer,

I am using a 32Gb USB flash drive, which should be more than enough.

I had checked that link already, and watched the video. I did everything as explained, except that the process is never completed. Acer Recovery management simply stops after copying 11Gb of files and I never get to see the final screen "Recovery Drive Ready"... The progress bar is stuck.

I waited more than 3 hours before hitting cancel, just in case. I am still not sure the backup process was complete.

Since it says "Microsoft will release an official hotfix in May 2013. If your model does not
have the patch available for download, please run your Microsoft Windows Updates
in May 2013 for the hotfix." So do I have to wait until May 2013 to down load patches before I can create my Factory Default backup ?

I didn't wait.  I installed the patch on an Aspire E1-571 and the problem was fixed.  So, either use the patch which is in the link I gave, or wait for the May hotfix.   As we are nearly in to May you may prefer to wait.  It's your call.
