Hello,

I'd like to replace the hard drive in my Notebook, but does it void the warranty, even if I keep the original one ?

I am just giving an opinion here...I would say that it would definately void any warranty you had from any seller...if it is faulty the hard drive comes under the warranty and you can send it for repair...if you need a larger hard drive why not use an external drive ? ...just a suggestion to you.

Well in fact I'd like to install a SSD.

I'm not intrested of the warranty of the hard drive but the warranty of the notebook itself.

So will I have problems with the after sales service if I have any problem covered by the warranty (except the hard drive) when I send them my laptop with the original hard drive ?

The usual conditions of a warranty are that the item is not tampered or altered in any way...by istalling a new hard drive you will be opening the laptop...thereby voiding the warranty...this is a standard practice for sellers and traders in terms of warranty.

Of course, you could always install the new hard drive and if anything went wrong then replace with the original (Not condoning such a practice, merely stating the obvious here in that wily minds would figure this out ! )...but the problem here is that there are often anti-tamper seals etc to show if an item has been opened...you would also need to be extremely careful as even the lightest touch with a screwdriver shows that a screw has had a driver head on it ! Many internal screws are also torque set I believe.

Well I disagree, I had other laptops (MSI, Dell) and I could change the hard drive whithout voiding the warranty (it is however not true for the RAM with MSI laptops).

I never had an Acer laptop, but in other brands changing the hard drive is made very simple to anyone. Is is usually a simple trap to remove hold my 2 screws or a drawer fixed by on screw.

Go ahead and do it then...as I expect you were going to do anyhow...you may not like what you have been told regarding the warranty but it is factual...open the casing and you will void the warranty...on my Acer there was a taper seal across the hard drive...disagree as much as you care to...I do not care one way or the other but you asked...and were given an answer that is factual.
