I have this laptop and I wanted to upgrade the SSD.
I got an 1TB Samsung 860 Evo m.2 SSD that I installed but the laptop is unable to detect it.
Its not showing up in the bios and for hdd0 it just says "none"
I put the old SSD back in and it works fine.
I tested the 860 evo in another pc and it works fine there so the SSD is not the issue.
I have another crucial MX300 M.2 SSD that doesnt work in the laptop either.
Is it possible this Laptop does not support m.2 sata SSDs but only NVME?
Need confirmation. Thanks

Hi,
I think it could be the size of the M.2 SSD, 1TB may be too large for this model , the maximum recommended size for this model is 512GB, I have seen a review where it states it's compatible with M.2 SATA drive, could you please go to Disk management and post the snip of it.

I had another 120 and 250GB that did not work either so I don't think its tjat
The drive it came with is a 256GB NVME drive0 -
I also can't find informations anywhere that this laptop only supports NVME m.2 SSDs.
So I just wanted to make sure if my laptop is not defective.
I also cannot find an option in the bios to enable and disable the sata controller.
Only that it has HDD0 and HDD1 and both are enabled.0 -
ok I noticed the SSDs are getting warm when the laptop is on, but they're not recognized by the bios, kinda like the sata controller isn't active.

I bought a 1TB Samsung 970 Evo NVME SSD. It was much more expensive, but it works.0

Yes, you can install a 2.5" SSD/HDD but you may need a cable and the bracket, please find the part numbers in this thread:https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/572908/acer-swift-3-sf314-41-need-parts-hdd-cable-and-bracket1
