Nitro 5 randomly and inconsistently "stops charging" while gaming on AC, sometimes cause blackscreen

Recently, out of no where my laptop randomly "stops charging" while playing intensive games like Dota 2, and causes the laptop to go into hibernate mode. I know my laptop is not overheating, multiple programs show me that my cpu is staying under 80C.

Unplugging and replugging my charger fixes the issue temporarily for some reason. It is strange because if i click on the battery icon, WIndows will show that my laptop is at 100%, but if I hover over the battery icon, the popup will say that my laptop is at some random percentage (72%, 86%, etc). Sometimes, it will "hit 0%" while gaming and cause my laptop to go into hibernation mode, but if I unplug the AC, windows will show that my laptop is indeed still at 100%.

Why is this happening? I recently got an RGB keyboard and this only started after I got it. I play connected to a monitor, cooling pad, rgb keyboard, rgb mouse, and speakers. The AC adapter is only 90w, is it possible my peripherals are draining the power too much while gaming? Does anyone else have this weird issue?

I am not entirely sure but this sounds like a battery calibration issue so lets reset and recalibrate the battery. First unplug your laptop and taking a paperclip press it through the battery reset hole on the bottom of the laptop press for 10 seconds then plug into the power. Then go to your power settings and turn of all sleep and hibernation and set to High Performance on battery, also set to high performance in Nitrosense if you have it. Charge your battery to 100% then unplug from the power and use the laptop until battery gets to around 7%, and repeat this procedure twice more for a total of 3 times. If this works you can change your power settings back to normal. Please report back

Hey man, I tried what you told me and it worked at first, but however when I play dota 2 it starts to discharge while plugged in and gaming. ususally this is normal but the battery starts to recharge after a while, however this hasn't been happening recently. Any ideas why or how to solve it? I recently changed my video game settings to be exclusive full screen which is giving me better performance but also using more power (I can tell by the increased CPU temps). Should I just revert my settings?

Hey, i`m facing the same problem -it stops charging while I play and stops the game because of too low battery, and that happens like every 2 mins, impossible to play and very frustrating. Did you find a solution by any chance?

Hi,

I am sorry, but this laptop is marketed as a gaming laptop, I mean it has a 3060 rtx chip, off course its power hungry... playing a game non full screen is not a solution to these units loosing charging when put under load. I have the very same issue and I do not even have the hole at the bottom of my Nitro 5.

Can someone please provide us with a more permanent and specific solution to this problem?
