Hard drive failure?

Aspire V3-571g

Got it through insurance a few weeks ago, downgraded from windows 8 to windows 7, and haven't touched it since, until about 2 days ago I decided to change from my old asus laptop.

Everything has been running flawlessly, just got it set up how I like it.

Was reading my emails this morning (gmail) and decided to resize the website (Ctrl + -), system seemed to freeze, then screen went black. BSOD (I think) flashed for less than half a second, screen went back to black, then went to the splash screen as if laptop was turning on.

It hung at the splash screen for longer than usual, then tried to use network boot (which is the last option in my boot menu)

So I went into the BIOS, and it claims there is no HDD installed.

I've tried removing the HDD and re-inserting it, but that has not got anywhere.

I'm currently running live ubuntu, but would very much like to get my HDD and windows working again.

Apparently the tech support number is not valid from mobile phones, and they seem to have removed the NZ live chat, so hopefully this will get me a quick response

    Good day

Please go to the bios, boot, change your secure boot from UEFI to Legacy, save and exit, test. If fault still persists, then also change the SATA mode from AHCI to IDE in the bios, under main.

    Regards,

Tried these steps again, changed to legacy bios.

Next boot (I went straight to bios) actually showed the HDD was attached, so I rebooted, and it doesn't want to see it any more
