flashing bios

I recently bought a used acer aspire e5-523g and opened it up it was running windows 8 i began to download norton security and began to run it upon running it i found lots of problems ie. viruses, trojans, etc. I formated the harddrive as i was going to run a linux distro by installing it through a live usb. I have tried to change various bios setting and the bios will not let me scroll down to change options the button for scrolling down is fine but i am only able to change the first option below the bios selection ie. boot, security, etc. I believe i should flash a new bios to this acer as the bios might have been affected by the malicious programs that where on this device how do i go about fixing it as my warranty is expired and the gentleman i purchased the laptop of of will not help either. What should i do? to top it off i changed the hard drive atm to another i had for a few years to realise that i forgot the user password and i am currently trying to use orphcrack but am unable to as i cannot change my boot opions

What are you trying to change in the BIOS menu? Any changes to boot order or compatiblity must be preceeded by setting and saving a BIOS supervisor password and re-entering the BIOS. Jack E/NJ
