Acer Swift SF314-51 Random Shutdown

Hi all,

After 2 years of honorable service, my notebook started to shut down on its own without any reason. Do you have any ideas before attempting to repair it in service?

Acer Swift SF314-51, OS: win10 pro, Bios: 1.11

Have you opened the laptop for any reason? Did it shut down while you were moving the machine or typing on it? What was the charge level on battery immediately after re-booting? Jack E/NJ

Never opened, the notebook was on a desk and I was checking some webpages and video on YouTube... It happens in a random way... The battery was fully charged and After the Power on It is ok. In the past with BIOS v 1.10 I had the same behaviour but with 1.11 It has been fixed. Could be something related to win10 or hardware fault?

Can you confirm that your unit is updated to the latest update in your Win 10 OS ?

A possible hardware fault would be either inadvertent triggering of the battery reset switch or a mainboard safety interlock switch. The link below describe these random shutdowns on a similar model due to these switches. Triggering is usually caused by a misaligned case and the fixes rather simple involving spacers and tape. Yes, but not may 2019 update 1903, It Is with the last october update and other fix

The last update has been installed but not the huge update released by Microsoft for May 2019. Now it's at the service center waiting for a feedback

I solved an similiar issue on Acer Swift 1 (SF114-32). Hope it helps.

There is a metal cover inside that is hold in place only by thin piece of metal. It has broken off and was freely moving inside and caused short circuit. There is even some burned plastic and black stains on the metal from the electricity going through it.
