Hi,

As subject line says, I can't get the hot swap bay to work. I have had the machine for months. But today I went from 3.5" to SSD. I thought I would use the hard drive in the hot swap bay, as to have some extra storage. But no extra disk was found when I powered up the machine. Nothing shown under disc management.

Am I supposed to connect some cables at the motherboard myself to make the hot swap work?

Thank you for your help.

I will answer my own question:

The cables to the hot swap bay are connected, but there is definitely a weak connection in the hot swap bay: It wasn't enough to simply lock the bay by using the orange button - the way that it makes a clicking sound as it locks the bay. No, I needed to really press the bay hard inwardly, first on the left side and then on the right side. After this, the hard drive obviously entered the connecting point inside the bay, as when I booted the machine, disk management made this sound that a new disk was found, and certainly it was the hard drive in the hot swap bay.

Another odd thing I noticed before I made the hard drive to be properly connected into the hot swap bay, is that before I restarted the machine to test this out, the DVD RW optical drive was gone from windows explorer. I must add that I didn't check whether the DVD RW was to be found under disk management, because the very moment I noticed it was gone under windows explorer I made this quick decision to turn off the machine with the intention to be tough on the hot swap bay. Anyway, as the hot swap bay with its hard drive turned up after this treatment, so did also the DVD RW optical drive.

I know with certainty that the DVD RW hasn't been gone from windows explorer all the time after my first attempt to install the hard drive into the hot swap bay. Therefore I am not sure what caused or this odd behaviour also with the DVD RW optical drive, as all the cables seem to be properly connected on the motherboard as well as behind the DVD RW.

The hot swap bay really feels like some real cheap Chinese Monday product. The same must be said about the DVD RW optical drive tray; it is thin plastic, and seems weak and loose.

But all in all I like the Predator G3-605.
