Hey everyone,
I literally just bought this Nitro 5 laptop & I am having some really bad heat issues with the CPU, even with CoolBoost on it jumps up to about 90 C with ONLY WoW up & im not even running high graphics settings.... It is absolutely outrageous & I would call Acer Elite Support right now if I wasnt at work... Linking the specs to show you guys how absurd it is for my laptop to be doing this without being under load... I have done so much to make this laptop run top notch & am even waiting for a Samsung 970 EVO SSD to be shipped; But now im getting heat issues with the CPU on a BRAND NEW gaming laptop, need help. :'(:'(:'(
----Specs----
Acer Nitro 5 AN515-53-52FA
gpu: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
cpu: 8th gen Intel i5 8300 H
RAM: 8 GB DDR4 SDRAM (going to upgrade to 16 GB soon)
storage: 7500 rpm HDD (Replacing with Samsung 970 evo soon)
----------------
I have also heard that ACER hasnt done a good job applying thermal paste, So if I have to replace this on a brand new laptop; ACER is getting an earfull.... I bought this laptop so I could avoid all problems with a basic game like WoW, WHY IS THIS HAPPENING.

Thank you to anyone who could assist me here, Just want to game at 60-80 FPS without any problems with FPS spikes, overheating, or my PC being slow trying to pull up webpages/other apps  :s

Thank you for this man, Will try out everything I can & will be contacting ACER for a replacement on the thermal paste, would rather let them know & have them fix it/make sure im at safe temps for sure!
I will say that I am extremely disappointed with them for slacking on such a crucial thing like thermal paste... If its not done properly it can destroy a laptop. I am getting my parts to upgrade tomorrow & now I must deal with sending in my laptop to them, jeeeez.

Hi bro. Any updates on this? I have the same problem. Bought my ACER NITRO 5 just 5 days ago and since yesterday it keeps on getting 90 to 95 degrees and then throttles the CPU and when it throttled, My charger wont work until I waited for 5 to 7 mins and only then it will charge again. I am planning to go to acer store and ask for replacement. Is there anything I can do before going there?

I had the same issue straight out of the box, until i decided to take the chance (void the warranty) and took apart my Nitro 5. Re-pasted the GPU and CPU. Now the CPU runs 70-80 degrees tops on heavy load, 35-45 degrees idle (Undervolted to -0.145 V and a cooling pad bellow).

Before the surgery, i was having an average 95 degrees playing Assassins Creed Origins, and it would rise several degrees above that in certain areas. After the whole Undervolt + Repaste, i tested the game again with surprisingly significant difference! CPU : 80-ish tops! and the GPU : steady in 60's (GPU not much of a difference after repaste).

Having the laptop raised for airflow would also be beneficial. You can download Intel's Extreme Tuning Utility to Undervolt it.

    I hope this helps!

    (Btw Im using the Nitro 5 515-52 model: GTX 1050 & i5-8300H)

intel no longer uses thermal solutions on their chips.. 95c is what they want them to run at... if you want cooler option, the RX560X benchmarchs at 30.5%, ryzen 5 depends on the chip some 50% some 70%, you could return the intel option and get the AMD option, I can run the acer AH-101 on them without a hiccup. also the actual clock speeds are 2.6-3.2 although it has gone higher for me but then it doesn't use all 8 threads, what im trying to get to, is that both cpu and gpu do not get past 61C and with fans at max for gaming and VR it stays at 38-42C. if you just bought it, its worth considering.

and there is NOTHING "elite" about that number, they will tell you to ship it to their repair centers... while walking you through briking your OS so you HAVE to send it, they will NOT exchange it for a new one, you have to go to the store you bought it from for that.
