I have installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS on Acer Swift 3 SF31. The microphone was not visible after installation.
I've added a line
'options snd-hda-intel model=laptop-amic enable=yes'
to file /etc/modprobe/alsa-base.conf
(I've tried a number of other model=..., but only the version above gave something). The microphone has become visible in alsa mixer, but the signal is very noisy and I cannot cope with it.
Does anybody know how to make the internal microphone working in ubuntu? Or just what snd-hda-intel options should be used for this motel?
Thanks,

I have the same issue on Acer Swift 3 SF315-52G. By default, the microphone is not detected at all.

When I put options to snd-hda-intel, like laptop-dmic and laptop-amic, I can see the microphone, but when I'm trying to record something, I hear only silence, or a white noise sometimes.

    Still looking for a fix.

@diezel Did you install 18.04 alongside Windows? Which distribution? Jack E/NJ

Yes. The distribution is Elementary OS Juno (based on Ubuntu 18.04, linux kernel 4.15). Under Windows 10 the microphone does work. I posted here to check if someone managed to solve this problem for Linux.

Have you posted this issue on the elementary forum yet? https://elementaryos.stackexchange.com/  Jack E/NJ

I have same issue in ACER Swift 3 SF315-52-50M2 (Linux Mint Tara 19 based on Ubuntu 18.04). In Windows 10 need install Realtek drivers and microfone should be work fine.

Same issue! I have looked here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=279424&start=47 but there is no fix available from what I can gather in that topic.

Additionally it seems that there is a rather long conversation about it here: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=201251 but it also does not look like there is a fix for it.

It was mentioned that this might be fixed in kernel 5.0+, but I am not sure if this kernel will work well. Does anyone have experience running the 5.0+ kernel on a Swift 3 SF315-52G with Ubuntu 18.04?

@Vasylllllllll please start a new thread with your issue, do as you have here here including the model number and configuration details along with the Linux distribution and version. That way you'll be able to make the question as solved if we can figure it out and future people will be able to find it easier. Thanks.
