acer updater has known compatibility issues with this version of windows

I have an Acer Aspire 5560. Just got the automatic update now I got the error message "acer updater has known compatability issues with this version of windows" (Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1).  A lot of people on the Acer Facebook page are having the same problem, regardless of the model.  Any ideas

I cancelled the Acer update.

On the Yahoo Answers board someone posted a hotfix link which I haven't had the guts to try.  If anyone does try it let me know if it helps

Since Jan 2013 I've had to reinstall the op system, then I had to ship it back in December for a new sound card. And now this.

Use the software from the link! I ran the windows tool that helps check for a problem and it says a software update would fix the issue and linked to the same page that you linked to in your post.

    Cheers!

I had the same pop up on my acer 5830 and ran the windows search for the solution and it directed me http://global-download.acer.com/SupportFiles/LiveUpdater/Pages/ALUFix.aspx

The 5830 isn't one of the listed products so I ran option 2... the hotfix

So far so good. Guess I was just nervous about doing it because the webpage you are directed to doesn't look very official... would feel a lot better if the landing page was part of the official Acer website

Funny to see you've also had issues with your sound from your Acer. My speakers turned incredibly tinny and were distoring all sounds on Skype or streaming videos online or listening to music. Weirdly some other things like YouTube worked fine. Anyway, I found a website that suggested deleting the HD sound softare that comes on your laptop... I tried it and now my sound is good again... weird I know.

I also have the same problem with my Acer aspire 5750Z, I ended up on the same page with the list of models and the 5750Z wasn't listed. So I downloaded the Updater Hotfix and ran it, all i got was an error.

The error said; "SetupNew\setup.cpp (135) PAPP: PVENDOR: PAPP: $ @WIndows Vista Service Pack 1 (7601) Non IE/Netscape31714.86" I have no idea what that means, tried downloading the Hotfix again but i still get the same error. Hope someone can help.

i have a 5750g and was directed to the hotfix link but warning came up saying that "this type of file could harm the computer" im not very experienced with computers so this kind of scared me, am i being too cautious ?

should i just ignore the update/compatability issues as computer seems fine or run the hotfix ??

We have the Aspire 5250-BZ873 and I downloaded the regular before I realized the last part of the lable probably counted as part of the model number???  At any rate, the download and run went smoothly so we'll see if there are any further problems other than the non-compatibility msg.  Thanks for the info/path to follow!  I'll post if it seems to work to let other 5250-xxxx know if it's successful! I have an Aspire 5742-6639 which is not one of the listed models, so I clicked on the download hotfix option.  It says this file may harm my computer which worries me.Has anyone with this model downloaded this successfully?

My model is not listed in the downloads  When attempting to download recommended hotfix, the message reads could harm my computer.  If it can harm my computer, why does Acer give me that option?  Help, please.

Totally agree - the popup doesn't look official, as a result I didn't do it - a week later, I can't boot up - Windows starts to load and then stops.   We're now looking at reformating and reloading Windows 7 AND doing the updater...  I had some research on my laptop that means a lot of hours - I should've known better and kept it on a stick, but didn't...

I'm disappointed that I wasn't told about this compability issue when I bought the laptop - it came with Windows 7!!  My laptop is, of course, 13 months old, but I'm still going to go back to the retailer and bring up my concerns...

I get that message for anything I try to download - it's a security thing...  I did download it on my son's laptop - it did fine...

Hi, Both my parents and I have an acer laptop. Mine has been fine (5741Z) but my parents one (5733) has the compatibility issues warning. I've just tried the fix that someone mentioned, but "This page can't be displayed" apparently. I have no problem ignoring some silly message, but their laptop is painfully slow and they have hardly anything on it. Does this compatibility issue slow the machine down???
