Aspire V3-772G Upgrade from Windows 10 1709 to Windows 10 1809

My Aspire V3-772G 9820 notebook started life with Windows 8.1 a few years ago, and was upgraded to Windows 10.  Over time, automatic updates have successfully installed and my current Windows 10 version is 1709.  
Automatic updates to Windows 1803 and 1809 have taken a long time to go through the install process and have failed at the 30% point, when the system restarts and the changes are undone.  The upgrade to 1803 gave error code 0X8007001f.  The upgrade to 1809 gave error code 0X8C1900101.
I have tried updating to 1809 from the Windows Update Assistant, and this has got past the 60% point, but has also failed and undone the changes, with error code 0X8024001e.
I've done a Windows Update error check, a disk check, have deleted the update libraries, uninstalled network and virus protection and any older programs, have done a system files check and repair, and the update still fails.
My BIOS and drivers are the latest offered by Acer or, when later drivers available, by the component manufacturer.
Has anyone successfully installed Windows 1803 or 1809 on the V3-772G and, if so, will you please let me know what you did to achieve this?
I have read that display adapters might be problematic.  The Intel HD Graphics 4600 driver is 10.18.15.4248 (4 Aug 2015).  I believe this is an Acer customized driver.  Is it possible that this driver is the problem?  Should I override the driver with the latest Intel driver or will this cause other problems?
My other display adapter is Nvidia GeForce GTX 850M with driver 22.21.13.8205 (1 May 2017).
Help would be much appreciated as I'm thoroughly sick of the repeated automatic update attempts to install the upgrades.  I've set my network to metered to avoid this but I do have to check for updates occasionally to ensure I at least keep 1709 up to date.

    Hello! Before upgrading to version 1809, I suggest you back up your files! Also, I suggest you uninstall any antivirus that is installed and also download the latest versions of the video drivers on the nvidia and intel websites! There is no problem installing a component vendor driver!

    I did all the backup, etc., prep work before running the Windows update.
    I then found all of the video driver versions at Acer and Intel and, working from the latest back to my current drivers, I repeated the Windows Update, which failed in exactly the same way every time.
    Searching the internet, I came across several claims that disabling VTx in the BIOS would correct this problem, so I tried to do that.  Unfortunately (and maddeningly), Acer has made the Advanced BIOS options unavailable, so I'm now dead in the water.
    I've spent many hours looking for a way around this, to no avail, and am thoroughly frustrated and, I must say, angry that I can no longer update Windows on my really great notebook.

  • What is the bios version? Have you tried doing a disk cleanup?

    BIOS is the latest offered for my Aspire V3-772G 9820 notebook on the Acer site.  It's InsydeH20 V1.15 dated 7 Mar 2014.  Pretty old, but I'm reluctant to get an update from anywhere else as I understand that it's not possible to back out if things go wrong.
    I didn't do a disk cleanup but I will give it a try, although, as I have 136 gb free space on my Kingston SA400S SSD, I'm not confident that this will help.  Still, miracles do happen, so here I go.
    One thing that might be significant (I don't pretend to understand this) is that both my SSD (240 gb) and my regular drive (1 TB) have the same driver: Microsoft 10.0.16299.371.  The first three number sets match the Windows Build No, so maybe this is OK???
  • In this case, you need to update the chipset driver on the intel!

    Just did the disk clean and am running the windows update (with little hope).
    Last week, I crawled through everything in Device Manager, and got the latest drivers from the Acer site.  I then went to Intel and downloaded and installed all the Intel drivers that were later than I had.  My Intel 8 Series Chipset Family SAFA AHCI Controller now has Driver 14.8.16.1063 dated 10 Apr 2017.
    I think I forgot to mention that Acer doesn't include my notebook in the list of Acers that have been tested for Win 10 1803.  I hope I haven't wasted your time.
    What do you think?  Is it time for me to give up?

  • The fact that your notebook is not listed on the Acer website to be compatible with version 1809 does not mean that this version can not be installed! I, for example, own the v3-571 model with version 1809!
