I think I might finally be able to boot up from a live disc when I do that.
Thanks in advance for the help.

The machine should be kept in UEFI bootstrap. You may have to first  set and save a BIOS password. Then re-enter the BIOS menu with the password to disable secure boot and rearrange the boot order to set the live disk to number one. Your live iso disk must also be GPT-partition FAT32 formatted with Rufus to be recognized by UEFI bootstrap. Jack E/NJ

I made a password and disabled secure boot before I posted here, didn't work.
I don't know for certain whether my live disk is GPT or MBR or whatever, nor how the boot partition is formatted. It's a Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition 19 V.2 live disc if that helps?
I keep having to change the boot priority of my USB optical drive every time.

I also run the Cinnamon iso but from a GPT partition USB pendrive. I also run Cinnamon in dual boot mofe. Is the Mint disk a USB pendrive or a DVD disc? Jack E/NJ

    I said 'disc'.
It has worked before and an Arch live USB that I lost worked even closer to now.
The main disc I want boot up is actually DragonflyBSD 5.4.1 (I tried Mint when that didn't work) but that's probably not important.

Nothing unusual about that. Most of mine worked before too intermittently. Sometimes cleaning them with rubbing alcohol or windex helps. Sometimes blowing the ODDs out to remove cat hair and other debris from the diodes helps. That's why I rarely use ODDs any more. Put all the isos on a GPT USB stick. Jack E/NJ

I just tried playing an audio CD from the same drive and it worked perfectly so that can't be it.
I have no USB stick but I could try flashing the image to a partition of a HDD or SSD. Not sure how to do that on Windows though and I don't like installing third party software.
