8GB ram upgrade not accessible

The specification for my Aspire 5551 explicitily says that it can be upgraded to 8GB of ram. Yet when I installed the appropriate 4GB sticks of ram I found that their is a memory barrier 3.75GB where the video memory is mapped.   There is supposed to be an option in the BIOS to map around this space but there is not one. Could someone please point me to a version of the BIOS that does not have this issue, I have tried the three most recent ones.

For anyone from Acer who is monitoring this board, if I do not have a fix for this issue within the next week I will be contacting y state authorities about the issue.  I will also inform everone I know and make it clear that Acer is not a brand to be purchased from.

If your version of windows is 32 bit, it will not use or even detect over 4gb of ram

Thank you, but I am aware of that. I have a 64bit version of Windows 7  I have also booted off a 64bit Linux distrobution disc and had the same issue.

I'm having the exact same issue with my Aspire 5251.  I went ahead and installed the two 4gb RAM chips, upgraded the BIOS to the latest available version, and I'm running Windows 8 64-bit.  My system is showing 8gb RAM installed, but is only allowing me to access 3.55gb in total!  I'm hoping ACER has an answer for this...

Glad that I am not the only one.  If I do not have an answer to this I will be calling first Acer Customer Service and if that does  not work, my Attorney General with charges of false advertising and bait and switch.

I have an issue that is likely directly related. I've "upgraded" my 2GB 5251 (W7, 64-bit) to 8GB. Now my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 device gets a "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" and I have lost its features. Help!

After umpteen hours of trying things, I updated the BIOS to 2.14 (no apparent help), uninstalled the video driver (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 V8.713.1.0) and rebooted again. The system installed a different driver (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 V8.970.100.7000). It seems to work properly.

Dranoel - I have this same issue with a 5251.  I have upgraded the BIOS to 2.14, and tried both 13.4 and 13.1 AMD driver software, but cannot resolve the problem.  I have tried removing the driver, but the system still redects it as a Mobility Radeon HD 4250, and I am unable to locate the 4200 v8.970 drivers that you mention.

Can you provide any additional detail on what you did and possibly a download link to driver you used?

    Thank you!
