Hello all! I just recently purchased a Acer Nitro 5 AN515-42 from best buy, and it has some serious lag issues when in use. But the biggest problem is when I charge it, everything would freeze. I have tried resetting Windows 10 already but to not avail. Any and all help would be appreciated!

Also, I tried disabling the AC power adapters in the device manager, it worked for a while but then it still froze. Also, after manually powering it off through the power button, when it rebooted it had a black screen for a bout couple of minutes. I rather NOT have to send it in, spent nearly 700 dollars on this. Any help appreciated, thank you!

Hi, I have the Nitro AN515-51 and the whole system started freezing and stuttering, desktop operations were painfully slow and games were constantly freezing for several seconds despite setting graphics to minimum. Startup was taking about 10 mins with a black screen, regardless of fast boot setting etc. I remembered that I had an ancient laptop buried away and I took the hard drive out and put it in the Nitro. Voila. Desktop is now super fast and games are running at ~50fps on max settings.

open task manager and see if your pc is at 100% disk usage

Hi and thanks for responding guys. Yeah, I've noticed when talking to my friend that my Disk in the performance under task manager was at 100% the other night. Now, it's anywhere from 13% to 20% and sometimes it spikes to 90%. My friend suspects it's something to do with the hard drive which DickDastardley is probably right, not sure the change now though.

Yeah it seems to be mostly at 100%, guessing this might be a hardware issue with the HDD

i got the same laptop and the specifications are same.. the problems are that the laptop will randomly freeze or black screen when playing games only until i need to force shut down... i've tried many ways and installed the correct drivers but the problems still occurs.

Had my Nitro 5 for less than 24 hours before I had enough of the HDD and bought a M.2 SSD and its now much snappier. Does yours have the 128GB SSD installed or does it only have the 5400RPM Mechanical drive?

Bear in mind if you do add an SSD you will want to start from scratch and install Windows on that instead as having any sort of OS on a HDD these days is a terrible experience.

if you don't have this driver on the ans 42 then you dont have the correct drivers. also make sure your game is selected High Performance in Adrenalin Switchable Graphics

Please click YES if I answered your question

I am not an ACER employee
Thank you and have a blessed day  B)

i already do all of the settings and downloaded the correct drivers...or the problems occur from hardware?  i bought the laptop december last years and the problems occured in first week...i already sent it to the acer centre and changed motherboard but the problems still happening. i learned all about the settings for the switchable graphics including power setting all of that done but the problem still happen.
